Did you know that the monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial has inside 36 fountains and water
00:00:01
reached up to the second floor? When Philip II designed the monastery, he had already thought
00:00:09
about having there clean water through canals. Our project is mainly aimed in investigating in
00:00:16
San Lorenzo del Escorial, this worldwide known welfare and in studying the cycle of water,
00:00:28
its quality, canals and usage, together with the wildlife and flora which surrounds the area
00:00:35
thanks to water, including tourists. For this aim, we have developed some activities
00:00:42
within the Steam Abbey methodology, which starts with an excursion whose starting point is the
00:00:50
original fountain of water, goes through every arc, casket, fountain, and dam till it reaches
00:00:58
its destination, the Monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial.
00:01:05
We are supported by our high school Juan Herrera, the local council, National Heritage, Luis
00:01:11
Ceballos Arboreto, the College of Education of Complutense University, Isabel Segunda
00:01:19
channel and experts in geography who know firsthand about the paths of water.
00:01:25
We learn what is a canal, build artifacts which analyze the quality of water, build
00:01:33
up maps of the arcs to check their efficacy, and last but not least, we learn how to be
00:01:40
responsible for the usage of this viral resource.
00:01:47
we communicate our project to the whole educational community
00:01:51
to our city and to all those who are interested in the issue
00:01:56
believing that social media are a crucial tool
00:02:01
to broadcast our project
00:02:05
and we use Instagram, Facebook and Twitter
00:02:07
because we are engaged in subjects
00:02:11
such as biology, technology, arts, TICO
00:02:15
and English language, our interdisciplinary team
00:02:18
can develop a large-scale range of points of view
00:02:22
about the importance of water in San Lorenzo de la Escoria.
00:02:27
We also count on the unconditional support
00:02:32
received by our high school and the necessary resources
00:02:35
to carry it out next year. We are enjoying with the
00:02:38
STEAM Abbey project and need to share our enthusiasm
00:02:42
for this wonderful adventure.
00:02:47
Thanks.
