oh hey hi welcome to grammar with dave i hope you don't mind i just bought a hamburger and 00:00:04
some chips for my lunch i'm really hungry actually that reminds me yesterday i read a true story 00:00:28
about an unusual criminal called the Hamburglar. 00:00:38
He broke into a fast food restaurant in Florida. 00:00:44
He went into the restaurant in the middle of the night. 00:00:51
He wanted to steal all their money, of course, 00:00:56
but he didn't steal the money straight away. 00:00:59
First, he switched on the grill, 00:01:03
took a hamburger, 00:01:06
cooked it, 00:01:09
and ate it. When he finished he took the money and then he left. He didn't do this 00:01:10
just once, he did it twice in two different restaurants. So how did the 00:01:19
police find him? Well security cameras in the kitchens filmed everything the 00:01:27
thief did. That made it easy for the police to identify him. All those 00:01:34
sentences were in the past simple. We use the past simple to talk about finished 00:01:42
actions in the past, for example for the events in a story. Let's look at some of 00:01:48
the sentences again. These are all in the past simple affirmative. These are 00:01:55
regular verbs. They finish in ED. And these are irregular. Many common verbs in 00:02:05
English have an irregular past form. To make the negative form of the past 00:02:15
simple, we put didn't before the main verb. And to make the question form, we 00:02:22
put did before the subject. Anyway, yes, the police arrested the Hamburglar and 00:02:29
now he's in prison. Please remember that if you ever see a crime it's really 00:02:40
important to report it to the police immediately. Anyway, talking about 00:02:47
hamburgers is making me hungry again. It's lunchtime at last. Now where did I 00:02:53
put my food? Didn't I put it on that table? Did you see where I put it? Oh well, 00:03:00
Thanks for watching. 00:03:08
