you you're laughing right watching me tumble like that are you oh no no go 00:00:00
ahead but hey do you know what just happened there we go again well this is 00:00:20
nothing but an earthquake a small one indeed come let me tell you about 00:00:33
earthquakes today zoom in the surface of the earth is like a jigsaw puzzle yes 00:00:39
it's not a single piece of land but approximately 20 pieces of a puzzle 00:00:48
that constantly move but you don't feel it because they move quite slowly each 00:00:53
Each one of those puzzle pieces are called tectonic plates. 00:01:01
So, whenever those plates hit, bump or slide past another plate, an earthquake is caused. 00:01:05
The surface where these plates slip is called the fault or the fault plane. 00:01:15
So, when do you think it happens? 00:01:22
Well, it happens all the time. 00:01:25
But hey, don't be scared, most of the times we don't feel the quakes as they are too small to reach us. 00:01:28
But sometimes they are so strong that they can be felt over a thousand miles away. 00:01:37
The place where the earthquake originates is called the Hypo Center. 00:01:45
And the place where it occurs on the earth's surface is called the Epi Center. 00:01:51
epicenter there are three types of earthquakes convergent boundary here one 00:01:55
plate is forced over another during an earthquake which causes a thrust fault 00:02:04
many hills and mountains have been formed due to the convergent boundary 00:02:10
divergent boundary your plates are drifted apart from each other forming a 00:02:16
rift zone this kind gives birth to new ocean flows transform fault here the 00:02:23
plates slip by each other and this is also called strike slip so earthquakes 00:02:31
are nothing but the shaking rolling or a sudden shock of the Earth's surface now 00:02:40
Now you know, that whenever the earth is stressed or angry, it shakes and grumbles. 00:02:49
Don't be scared, I was just kidding. 00:02:57
Trivia Time! 00:03:01
The instrument used by scientists to measure the intensity of earthquake is known as a seismograph. 00:03:03
A tsunami is caused when earthquakes occur under water. 00:03:11
Whoa! Yikes! I need to rush before I tumble again, so this is me zooming out. 00:03:15
Tune in next time for more fun facts. 00:03:25
