Is ethics still important in our modern world?

As you will probably remember, there is a difference between morality and ethics. 00:00:00
Morality refers to the individual rules of behavior of a person, what they think is right or wrong. 00:00:05
Ethics, on the other hand, is an explanation about why some things are right or wrong. 00:00:13
So it is a reflection about morality, and actually it is a part of philosophy. 00:00:18
is ethics relevant today in the 21st century where we should be worried about economy and health 00:00:23
and efficiency well of course it is in our modern technological world there are a lot of challenges 00:00:32
that need reflection a lot of situations that can create a lot of problems and suffering to 00:00:40
many people if we don't stop and think if our actions are correct or not. Let me give you some 00:00:47
examples. As you know, we're facing a serious crisis in the world because of climate change. 00:00:54
Now, what we do with our planet is an ethical responsibility, because not only ourselves are 00:01:04
involved, but also the future generations. So we should carefully think about what we're doing, 00:01:10
which are our actions, because we are affecting other people and even people that haven't even 00:01:16
been born today. Or think about technology, computers, the apps that we use every day, 00:01:22
how they can, for example, know a lot of data about us. What is correct to do in this situation? 00:01:29
Is it right that some companies own your data or know a lot of things about you? How should we 00:01:38
treat, for example, artificial intelligence. There are a lot of challenges there, and we should stop 00:01:44
and think what is right and wrong to do in this case. Or biotechnology. Imagine that in a future 00:01:49
we could cure diseases, or we could enhance human abilities, or we could, for example, make that an 00:01:56
old person looks younger and never dies. This might seem science fiction today, but in the future, 00:02:04
However, if these kind of things are possible, they will pose serious ethical problems and 00:02:11
we should stop and think what is right or wrong to do. 00:02:18
So ethics is relevant today because there are many threats to human dignity even in 00:02:22
our modern world and there are a lot of situations in which human rights are violated. 00:02:28
So we should stop and think and take ethics seriously. 00:02:34
