Hi kids and welcome to our natural science lesson. 00:00:00
Today we are going to learn about pure substances and mixtures. 00:00:09
But do you know what a pure substance is? 00:00:19
A pure substance is made up of a single type of matter, only one type. 00:00:22
We can find many pure substances in our environment, for example oxygen in the air we breathe. 00:00:28
Also water, sugar and salt are pure substances. 00:00:43
They are all pure substances because they are made up only of one single type of matter, only one type. 00:00:58
But what happens when things mix? 00:01:07
Then we've got a mixture. 00:01:10
A mixture is two or more things put together. 00:01:13
Let's make a mixture. 00:01:19
I take lettuce. 00:01:21
I take some tomato. 00:01:25
And I take some tuna. 00:01:30
I mix. 00:01:35
And then I have a mixture. 00:01:39
A salad is a mixture because it has lettuce, tomato, tuna. 00:01:41
It is made up of two or more things. 00:01:47
There are two types of mixtures. 00:01:52
On the one hand we have homogeneous mixtures. 00:01:55
In these mixtures we can't see the different components. 00:01:59
For example seawater. 00:02:04
Seawater is a homogeneous mixture of water, salt and gases like oxygen. 00:02:06
Air is also a homogeneous mixture as it is made up of different gases like oxygen and water vapor. 00:02:14
On the other hand there are heterogeneous mixtures. 00:02:23
In heterogeneous mixtures we can't see the different components. 00:02:29
One example is salad. 00:02:34
In salad we can't see the different components. 00:02:37
We can see lettuce, tomato, chicken, tuna, etc. 00:02:40
So now let's review. 00:02:48
Pure substances are made up of a single type of matter. 00:02:56
For example oxygen, water, salt, sugar and some minerals like diamonds or cards. 00:03:01
Mixers are the opposite. 00:03:10
Mixers are two or more things put together. 00:03:12
And there are two types of mixers. 00:03:16
If we can't see the components they are homogeneous mixtures like seawater or air. 00:03:20
If we can't see the components they are heterogeneous mixtures like a salad. 00:03:28
I hope you like it. 00:03:36
See you! 00:03:38
Lots of kitties! 00:03:40
