At present, the Pyrenees mountain chain comprises approximately thirty glaciers. A glacier is made up of an enormous quantity of frozen water that remains all year long and is regenerated by the alternation of accumulation of snow in winter and a partial thaw of this snow in summer. The natural cycle of thawing and regression of the glaciers began in the middle of the 19th century, but has accelerated rapidly over the last thirty years due to global warming. Average temperatures 2 ° degrees higher and a significant reduction in snowfalls have prevented the annual regeneration of the glaciers and caused a very rapid decrease in the volume and surface of the glacial masses. If the current trend of thawing continues, by 2050 all of the Pyrenees glaciers could well disappear.

Hello! I'm a capercaillie, or woodgrouse if you prefer. If I may say so, I'm not unhappy 00:00:00
with my looks, and you should see me during the bridal parades. Top of the class! 00:00:25
The rest of the time, I lead a simple life in the heart of the magnificent landscapes 00:00:30
of the Pyrenean forest. But with the climate change over these last years, my mountain 00:00:35
is changing. The glaciers are melting and pretty soon there won't be any. The forest 00:00:41
grows ever higher up the slopes, so that the high mountain flora is threatened, and this 00:00:47
changes my habitat completely. I'm starting to feel hemmed in. For us, it is more than 00:00:52
time. Save energy. Select low-temperature washing programs. Act now. 00:00:59
