Digital project action plan for course Leadership and Management for bilingual coordinators lead by Rachel Kelly
Hello, my name is Andrea and I'm a secondary school English teacher at Comunidad de Madrid State Schools.
00:00:02
This is my first digital project to upload to Mediateca and I'm doing so after completing a course titled
00:00:09
Leadership and Management Skills for Bilingual Coordinators, led by Rachel Kelly.
00:00:16
We were asked to develop an action plan to carry out in our schools.
00:00:24
Now, I'm not a bilingual coordinator, and I believe next year I will be teaching vocational education and training in English.
00:00:31
So who are the stakeholders in my project, in my action plan?
00:00:41
Well, they're teachers, students, administrators, non-teaching staff, VET employers, families and education authorities.
00:00:45
So I've taken all these into account to develop my plan.
00:00:56
And what about the issue, the driving question that leads my action plan?
00:01:02
Well, last year I noticed a discordance between students in sección and programa.
00:01:10
And this gap is possibly due to occur also in vocational training.
00:01:17
So I really want to work towards creating a diverse and comprehensive society and I want to do this starting with school and using English to do so.
00:01:23
So I want to bring everybody together and try to bridge that gap.
00:01:35
My vision therefore is to bridge the gap between vocational training and secondary school students within a bilingual school community.
00:01:41
what are the actions the specific concrete actions that I've decided to
00:01:51
take well let's have a look first of all we were taught to start small and get
00:02:02
bigger so the first thing I'm going to do is conduct a survey to assess that
00:02:11
student's situation within the bilingual school community I will also choose a
00:02:17
a vet skill. I am going to choose that of early child care aid so these are the future
00:02:28
assistants who will work with early childhood children in schools and I will teach them
00:02:35
English. I'm going to create a solid teaching plan and going to use English for specific
00:02:42
purposes and we're going to create an online working platform so we can keep track of all
00:02:48
our work. In order to put my action plan into action, I will have to hold meetings with
00:02:55
vets and English department members and of course a head team to ask for permission
00:03:08
and I'll have to check that the resources are enough. How about the actual thing I'm going to
00:03:13
do? I want to prepare an open day to share the vet skill in English, what we do with the school
00:03:22
community and within that early childhood care we will carry out three workshops for everybody
00:03:30
who wants to join in one will be about action songs for toddlers for little children another
00:03:36
one will be on storytelling and another one will be on how to change a nappy now the big day the
00:03:42
big moment will be to actually celebrate the open day and i have to remember to take pics of the
00:03:53
moment to track success and as far as success is concerned and results that's a major part of the
00:03:59
action plan so I'm going to check how many participants there were I'll carry out a survey
00:04:09
after the action plan and also regard the possibility of extending the project to other
00:04:16
skills. So we'll see what feedback we get from the education community. Now, there are always
00:04:25
issues we can face, but as we were told at the course, the important thing is what we do about
00:04:33
it. So let's see what some of these issues could be. There could be people not interested in the
00:04:39
project, low participation, people thinking this is just silly, and also things like laziness,
00:04:45
envy, low self-esteem etc. So how can we deal with this? Well luckily Rachel gave us some great
00:04:54
ideas in the course. First of all it's paramount to have a strong vision and mission and to be
00:05:02
motivating and to have intervention strategies with your team. Also to be smart, being specific,
00:05:08
being able to measure your action plan and being realistic. You have to promote your project and
00:05:16
also remember to keep smiling. Finally we have to have a look at the indicators of success. How do
00:05:22
we know if the action plan was successful? Well I'm going to check out how many participants there
00:05:32
were both on the open day and also on the online platform we created. I will conduct a survey
00:05:38
before and after to see if there were any significant changes and also I'll check what
00:05:45
feedback I got from students, colleagues, families and the school community in general.
00:05:53
Another important thing is to celebrate success. So you can always have a little party with students,
00:06:05
drinks and cake with colleagues. Remember to keep going and to congratulate oneself
00:06:11
and being grateful. And we can also give prizes for the best nappy changer.
00:06:16
Okay, well thanks very much for watching.
00:06:23
This is my first digital project and I hope it gets me through to the next round.
00:06:25
Have a great holiday. Bye!
