Glassbau Hahn is a glassmaking factory in Frankfurt in Germany. 00:00:00
Till Hahn is its director. 00:00:20
Our company has been based from the very start always in Frankfurt am Main. 00:00:23
Originally we had been more in the center of the city, but during World War II Frankfurt 00:00:28
was heavily bombed and then we moved out a bit towards the east and this is where we 00:00:34
are and where we feel very happy. 00:00:39
We can trace our company back to 1836. 00:00:42
That's when my great-grandfather came to Frankfurt as a glazier and he married a widow who had 00:00:46
been in the glass business already before and ever since it's in the hands of the Hahns. 00:00:55
Our company can be divided in three sections. 00:01:05
The original one was strictly the glass business, windows, storefronts, glass doors and so on. 00:01:09
The second one is louver windows, a special window for ventilation. 00:01:18
Perhaps the most glamorous part of our business is display cases, museum equipment. 00:01:24
Who are your clients? 00:01:29
Well, when I talk about display cases, our clients certainly are museums. 00:01:32
Museums all around the world. 00:01:39
After England we were brave enough to expand into the United States. 00:01:41
That was my special effort for the company, which has turned out very well and now we 00:01:45
are doing business with most places on earth. 00:01:51
We have, I think, six offices for representing us, spread around. 00:01:56
How many employees do you have? 00:02:05
In Frankfurt we have about 120 employees. 00:02:09
There are about another 35 in Stockstadt who are doing the louver window business. 00:02:13
And then we have about another 15 people in our various offices in Japan, in Tokyo, in 00:02:21
China, the United States and in England. 00:02:32
Who are your competitors? 00:02:36
There had been some glorious times in the past where we didn't have any competition. 00:02:39
That was in 1935 when my father invented the first all-glass construction, meaning the 00:02:43
bonding of glass to glass without intermediate framing. 00:02:50
Then it was back in 1970 where competitors became more apparent and they are not so much 00:02:56
in Germany, but rather one of the competitors is based in Italy, one is in England. 00:03:06
And we always meet when there is an international bidding to do. 00:03:12
And usually we are the most expensive one, but fortunately our clients nevertheless rank 00:03:18
quality highest and the price tag is not the only decision factor. 00:03:26
Otherwise it would be to our disadvantage. 00:03:33
Our markets where we are very successful outside of England and America is lately especially 00:03:39
Japan, very important, China and even Egypt. 00:03:47
