So here I am to tell you something new about the passive form what we've just studied. 00:00:10
But wait a minute, what I've just said? Students are believed to learn more. 00:00:16
Yes, this is a passive form with reporting verbs. 00:00:23
As you know, reporting verbs are say, think, believe, expect, etc. 00:00:28
So for example, if someone says, because this is what they believe, they are in Miami, 00:00:35
we can report this piece of information using two different forms. 00:00:44
The first one is with the impersonal subject it plus the passive reporting verb plus a dead clause. 00:00:49
So the result would be it is believed that they are in Miami. 00:01:00
That can be omitted. It is believed they are in Miami. 00:01:06
The second option will be with the subject of the direct sentence they plus the passive reporting verb plus the infinitive. 00:01:11
In this example, the verb to be, because it says they are in Miami. 00:01:23
So the result will be they are believed to be in Miami. 00:01:29
