Maya nos explica DIET AND DIGESTION para tercero de primaria del colegio San Pablo
The nutrients in food. Why do we eat and drink? Read and think.
00:00:00
1. Read and list. A. The food you usually have for breakfast. B. The nutrients it contains.
00:00:06
Food contains the nutrients we need to live and grow.
00:00:14
Different food contains different nutrients.
00:00:19
There are five types of nutrients. Carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals.
00:00:21
Carbohydrates, like potatoes, bread, cereals, pasta, pulses, and rice, contain carbohydrates.
00:00:31
Fats, oil, butter, chorizo, cheese, nuts, contain fats.
00:00:40
There's also a difference between the good kind of fat and the bad kind of fat.
00:00:45
Avocado, for instance, is a good kind of fat.
00:00:49
Obviously, you don't want to be eating too much, but it's a much better fat than, say, chorizo.
00:00:52
Proteins.
00:00:59
Meat, fish, eggs, nuts, and dairy products contain proteins.
00:01:00
What are dairy products?
00:01:05
Just to be clear, dairy products are things such as yogurt and milk or cheese.
00:01:06
Pulses, such as lentils and pinto beans, also contain proteins.
00:01:13
Pulses in American English are called legumes.
00:01:17
Vitamins and minerals.
00:01:22
Fruit and vegetables contain vitamins and minerals.
00:01:25
Oranges and mandarins contain vitamin C.
00:01:28
And carrots contain vitamin A and also fiber, which is really important.
00:01:32
Milk contains a mineral called calcium.
00:01:37
Different nutrients are for different things.
00:01:40
Carbohydrates give us energy to run, ride a bike, and study.
00:01:43
So if you're about to play a big football game or play basketball or ride a bike for a long time
00:01:47
or dance, you want to eat carbohydrates so that you burn that for energy, the fat for energy.
00:01:53
Fats build a store for extra energy for when we need it. But careful, don't eat too many or you
00:02:00
will become unhealthy and overweight. Proteins help us grow. Proteins make your hair and nails
00:02:06
grow. They also repair body tissues. For example, when we fall over and hurt ourselves. Proteins are
00:02:14
also especially good to eat in the morning. So eggs in the morning is a very healthy diet
00:02:20
because they also help sustain your fullness so that you don't get hungry, too hungry later
00:02:25
for a much longer period of time than if you just eat carbohydrates or fats.
00:02:31
Vitamins and minerals help us to stay healthy. For example, vitamin A is good for eyesight.
00:02:36
calcium is good for bones and health and teeth excuse me more than half our body is water
00:02:44
we need to drink between six to eight glasses every day when we do exercise we need to drink
00:02:51
more why so for instance i always carry around a water bottle a bottle and i ref i try to refill
00:02:57
it at least six times a day and that's actually more than six to eight glasses every day but
00:03:07
I find that my body, every body is different, and my body needs more than six to eight glasses a day.
00:03:12
Also, sometimes when you feel hungry, what you actually are feeling is dehydrated,
00:03:19
and that means you need to drink more water and not necessarily eat more.
00:03:24
Your mind is confused.
00:03:28
So drink a lot of water.
