Hi, I'm Ashandria. 00:00:00
And I'm Molly. 00:00:03
And we are both here from Mrs. Shigley's 5th grade class at Thompson Elementary School 00:00:04
in Vero Beach, Florida. 00:00:09
The Hurricane Game gives our class the experience of tracking a hurricane and predicting its 00:00:10
possible landfall. 00:00:14
How do you track hurricanes in your game? 00:00:15
We use a tracking chart that has lines of longitude and latitude labeled on it. 00:00:18
Throughout the game, we are given coordinates of where the isle that storm is located at 00:00:23
different times. 00:00:28
What do you mean by landfall? 00:00:29
Landfall is where a hurricane is expected to strike land. 00:00:32
In the game, we issue watches and warnings to land areas that are in the path of the 00:00:35
hurricane, just like we're meteorologists. 00:00:39
What is the difference between a watch and a warning? 00:00:42
A hurricane watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within 36 hours. 00:00:44
A hurricane warning means that hurricane conditions are expected within 24 hours. 00:00:50
Well, we learned about that, but what are some of the forces that affect a hurricane's 00:00:56
path? 00:00:59
The hurricane in our game is heading right for Cuba. 00:01:00
We have a hurricane watch to issue right away, but to answer your question, there are some 00:01:03
people at NOAA who could definitely help you. 00:01:07
Thank you so much for your very valuable help. 00:01:10
No problem. 00:01:13
So long from the White Files Kids Club in the sunshine state of Florida. 00:01:14
