it is 1777 the american colonies are fighting for independence from great britain the war is long 00:00:00
cold and exhausting the soldiers are tired and they are running out of supplies and continue like 00:00:16
this we barely have gun power left some men don't even have proper shoes how are we supposed to 00:00:22
defeat the British army? Across the Atlantic Ocean in Spain, a wealthy merchant named Diego 00:00:31
Gardoqui reads reports about the war. Don Diego, the American colonies are desperate. They need 00:00:37
weapons, ammunition, blankets, almost everything. If they lose, Britain becomes even stronger. 00:00:43
But if they win, the balance of power changes. This could reshape history. Helping them is risky. 00:00:50
Britain is powerful. If they discover we are sending supplies, there could be consequences. 00:00:57
Freedom is always a risk, but sometimes history demands action. 00:01:02
Cardochi uses his trading company to secretly organize supplies. 00:01:06
Guns, gunpowder, uniforms and medicine. The cargo is prepared in silence. 00:01:10
The ships are ready, but British patrols are increasing. 00:01:15
Send them anyway. Mark the cargo as commercial goods. It must reach the American army. 00:01:19
Weeks later on America's soil 00:01:25
The supplies have arrived, we have ammunition, we have uniforms 00:01:27
Hope spreads through the camp, the soldiers feel stronger, they are no longer alone 00:01:31
Tell Spain, tell Diego Gardoqui that his hope keeps us fighting 00:01:36
The war continues, years later the United States wins its independence and Diego Gardoqui does not disappear from the state 00:01:39
Don Diego, the new United States wants to strengthen relations with Spain 00:01:48
He becomes Spanish's first ambassador to the United States, helping build diplomatic and commercial ties between the two nations. 00:01:52
Sometimes you don't need to hold a weapon to change the course of a war. Sometimes support from afar is just as powerful. 00:02:01
And so, behind the famous generals and battles, Diego Bardocki becomes one of the quietest heroes of American independence. 00:02:08
History is not only made by those who fight, but also by those who help. 00:02:16
But the history of Diego Cardochi didn't end up here. 00:02:22
His work continued to influence the relationship between Spain and the United States. 00:02:26
Don Diego, American leaders are grateful for the help they received during the war. 00:02:31
I'm glad to hear that. Supporting them was a difficult decision, but sometimes difficult decisions change history. 00:02:36
Many people will remember the battles and generals, but few will remember the Americans who helped from far away. 00:02:44
That's true, but what matters most is that the colonies achieve their independence. 00:02:51
The new United States was now beginning its journey as an independent nation. 00:02:56
Trade between Spain and the United States is starting to grow. Both countries can benefit from cooperation. 00:03:02
Then, we must continue building a strong relationship between our nations. 00:03:08
Your work during the war and after it will not be forgotten. 00:03:14
Thanks to people like Diego Bardocki, the American Revolution was not only a story of soldiers, but also a story of international support. 00:03:17
Sometimes help arrives in unexpected ways. 00:03:25
And sometimes the greatest victories are achieved when people work together. 00:03:28
Today, historians recognize the importance of allies and supporters during the American Revolution. 00:03:34
Without supplies, weapons, and financial support, the war would have been much more difficult for the colonies. 00:03:40
the colonies. We fought for freedom, but we were not alone. And that is why Diego Gardoqui remains 00:03:46
an important figure in the history of the independence of the United States. 00:03:52
