Presentación sobre Shakespeare

Good morning! Today we are going to talk about Shakespeare. Shakespeare is probably the most 00:00:04
well-known writer of all times in the English language. In this presentation we are going to 00:00:09
talk briefly about his life and work and why he is still so relevant today. Guess what? He is 00:00:14
probably one of the few people who was born and died on the same day of the year 23rd of April. 00:00:19
Although he only lived 52 years, he had time to become one of the king's favorite playwrights. 00:00:25
He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and moved to London to become famous around the 1600s. 00:00:30
Many countrymen like Shakespeare moved to London during this time in order to advance their careers. 00:00:37
London was growing in size and popularity during the time, reaching around 200,000 people by 00:00:42
the 1600s. London was concentrated to either side of the River Thames, nowhere near as big as the 00:00:50
London we know today, but was one of the largest cities in Europe at the time. 00:00:56
As you can see, his work is quite extensive, which includes 37 complete plays and 154 sonnets, 00:01:02
as well as other poems and other works that have not been proved to be written by him yet. 00:01:10
Moreover, Shakespeare invented over 1700 words which are still used in the English language 00:01:16
today. A lot of these words were created through combining words, changing nouns into verbs or 00:01:21
adding prefixes or suffixes, so it's likely you wouldn't have guessed that he invented them or 00:01:27
see them as odd. For example, he invented bedroom, hostile, dawn or excitement. After building 00:01:32
recognition and money, the Globe Theatre was built in 1598. It actually burned down in 1613 00:01:40
when a cannon set fire to the straw roof. However, it was rebuilt in 1614 and that version still 00:01:47
stands on the south bank of the river Thames. To conclude, I would like to ask you to think of the 00:01:54
following questions. Are these plays still being performed today? What languages have his plays 00:02:01
performed in? Where are they being performed today? What does this suggest about his writing? 00:02:07
