Hi children! Welcome back again with your favorite music teacher Pablo. 00:00:00
Today, I'm excited again to show you traditional instruments from Spain. 00:00:19
And, this is the tambourine, pandereta. 00:00:27
So, la pandereta, the tambourine, you can find it played in folk songs all over the country. 00:00:33
So, it's very easy to play. You play by hand. 00:00:45
Or, you have a special technique with one or two fingers that is called briscal, that makes this kind of characteristic sound. 00:00:51
Ok, tambourine. 00:01:08
And, with the tambourine, in the Christmas time, we play a lot of Christmas songs. 00:01:09
And, tambourine is one of the traditional Christmas instruments. 00:01:18
And, I'm going to show you a villancico. 00:01:22
That is how we call these traditional Christmas songs that are very popular all over Spain. 00:01:26
Ok, so my villancico that I'm going to play for you is called, ya viene la vieja. 00:01:34
The old woman is coming. 00:01:43
And, the lyrics, ok, I know it's difficult, it's hard for you to understand the lyrics. 00:01:45
But, the lyrics, I'm going to tell you what are they about. 00:01:51
So, they are about something that is also a traditional thing we do with Christmas songs. 00:01:55
That is called aguinaldo. 00:02:03
What's that? Aguinaldo. 00:02:05
Ok, aguinaldo is when we go out to play, when I say we, it's mostly young people. 00:02:07
Ok, young people, or me, I'm very young. 00:02:17
Ok, there go people that assemble with musical instruments. 00:02:21
And, they go on the 24th of December, the night of the 24th. 00:02:27
They go house by house singing villancicos. 00:02:32
And, they ask for the aguinaldo. 00:02:38
The aguinaldo could be money, could be food, even could be something to drink. 00:02:41
That the families that are celebrating the night of the 24th, that is traditional in Spain. 00:02:47
To celebrate together this dinner, this special kind of dinner. 00:02:53
That is going on the 24th of December. 00:02:58
So, the musicians or young people go home by home playing these Christmas songs. 00:03:01
And, before the dinner starts. 00:03:08
And, you give them aguinaldo. 00:03:12
So, this song is about a young woman that doesn't want to give you aguinaldo. 00:03:15
Ok, I hope you enjoy it. 00:03:22
I hope you enjoy this short villancico for you. 00:03:45
Bye. 00:04:09
Have a merry, merry Christmas. 00:04:11
