Hello! Welcome to the English class. Today we are learning used to and didn't used to.
00:00:01
But first we are going to review some tenses such as the present and the past tense from regular and irregular verbs.
00:00:08
So remember that regular verbs, the past ends in "-ed".
00:00:16
In present, play place. Past, we add "-ed", played.
00:00:21
She plays the piano. She played the piano.
00:00:25
What happens with irregular verbs? We use the second column and the word changes. Go, goes is the present, went is the past. She goes to the cinema and she went to the cinema.
00:00:28
So, what happened when we are talking about affirmative and negative sentences? Well, that we have an affirmative sentence with regular verb, she played the piano, and we have an affirmative sentence in past with an irregular verb, she went to the cinema.
00:00:41
So when we do the negative, we have to use an auxiliary verb to say no.
00:01:02
This auxiliary verb is did, didn't, because it's negative, didn't.
00:01:07
But here, she didn't play the piano is incorrect, because we are using past tense twice.
00:01:12
Estamos usando dos veces el pasado.
00:01:20
Y recordad que no puedo utilizar dos veces lo mismo.
00:01:23
Didn't is past, so I cannot write played in past again.
00:01:26
What is the correct form to write that? She didn't play in present. The piano. Past, present. She didn't went to the cinema. No, it's incorrect. She didn't go to the cinema. I explain it here much better. Yes.
00:01:30
Past and past, didn't play is incorrect, past and present, didn't play is correct
00:01:48
You can't have the same thing twice, no puedo tener dos veces lo mismo
00:01:56
So, didn't and played, past and past, I cannot have it, didn't went, it's also incorrect
00:02:01
On the other hand, didn't play, past present, didn't go, past present is correct
00:02:09
correct yes so now we are ready to talk about used to and didn't used to we use
00:02:17
used to to talk about things that happened very frequently in the past in
00:02:25
Spanish it means solía yo solía hacer esto es algo que hacíamos habitualmente
00:02:30
hace tiempo en el pasado as it is past and used is a regular verb not irregular
00:02:36
So you know how to do the past tense of this verb
00:02:46
Afirmative
00:02:49
She used to read books in class
00:02:51
Usamos la de
00:02:54
Recordad, el pasado con un verbo regular
00:02:55
Se añade ed, como la ella la tengo
00:02:58
Solo tengo que añadir la de
00:03:00
She used to read books in class
00:03:02
The negative
00:03:04
We used the auxiliary verb didn't
00:03:05
But now we have past
00:03:08
Can I have two past tenses in the same sentence?
00:03:10
No
00:03:13
so that's the reason why I write didn't use to okay past present what happens
00:03:13
with the interrogative the same I'm using the auxiliary verb did which is
00:03:21
past so now I have to write the sentence the verb using the present tense did she
00:03:27
used to read books in class okay and that's the end that's it okay she used
00:03:34
to read books in class, solía leer libros en clase, algo que hacíamos, ¿os acordáis?
00:03:40
She didn't used to read books in class and did she used to read books in class.
00:03:44
En la clase anterior ya vimos que la partícula didn't use cambia, ¿verdad? El pronombre y el auxiliary verb
00:03:49
cambian de posición cuando es una pregunta direct, ¿vale? En este caso, como es una direct question,
00:03:59
no una indirect question, también cambia de lugar, didn't, pasa a ser did en este caso, primera posición, pronombre, she, second position, ok?
00:04:07
Past and present, remember that.
00:04:18
And that's the end, thank you so much for listening to me, ok?
00:04:21
If you have questions, please let me know. Bye bye!
