The fall of the Roman Empire began the Medieval Age. 00:00:00
The Medieval Age brought plagues, famines, disease, and in the middle of it all is feudalism. 00:00:04
Feudalism, or the feudal system, was a dominant social system used in Western Medieval Europe, mainly from the 5th to 12th century. 00:00:11
In the feudal system, land are rewarded to lower classes for services, military service, and loyalty. 00:00:19
For example, a king would reward a noble for being loyal to him and in the same way a noble 00:00:25
would reward a knight for his service. 00:00:31
This created a social system where all social class are needed, which allows serfs and peasants 00:00:34
who are at the bottom of the social system to still have a high morale as the whole social 00:00:38
system depended on them. 00:00:43
This is important as nearly 90% of the population during the 5th and 12th century are either 00:00:45
serfs or peasants. 00:00:50
However, feudalism gave kings almost unlimited power and gave women living in medieval Europe 00:00:52
almost no rights. 00:00:58
Women were forced into marriage by their families and not allowed to get a divorce no matter 00:01:00
what. 00:01:04
It was also very common for social status to be more valued than intelligence in feudalism. 00:01:05
The decline of feudalism began with the Black Death. 00:01:12
The Black Death eliminated the overpopulation issue in Europe, meaning there are significantly 00:01:14
less people. 00:01:19
The Black Death also caused a lot of destruction and damage, destroying food production leading 00:01:21
to famines. 00:01:25
Labor was now needed and more valued than ever before. 00:01:26
Serfs and peasants are now valued as much as farmers, merchants, and craftsmen, destroying 00:01:30
a layer in feudalism. 00:01:35
Wealth were now being given to lower class, making the nobles, knights, and vassals poorer 00:01:37
while the working class richer. 00:01:42
The Black Death and a mixture of other reasons caused the decline of feudalism. 00:01:44
show that a work for reward system can work extremely well. If you look at our modern 00:01:49
social system, you'll see that work equals reward, in our case money. Feudalism also 00:01:54
created a system where all social class can interact with each other. My question to you 00:02:00
is what feudalism have worked if the black death didn't exist? As usual, goodbye and 00:02:04
thank you for watching. 00:02:09
