The Population of Europe and Spain 00:00:00
Europe is a highly populated continent. 00:00:03
More than 700 million people live in Europe, 47 million of them in Spain. 00:00:08
Europe and Spain both have an aging population due to low birth rate. 00:00:15
In Europe, very few babies are born and high life expectancy. 00:00:33
In Europe, life expectancy is 78 years. 00:00:39
In Spain, it is 82 years. 00:00:46
This means there are more elderly people than young people. 00:00:50
So, the growth rate of the European population is very slow. 00:00:54
Distribution of the population. 00:01:07
Most of the population of Europe is urban. 00:01:10
7 out of 10 Europeans live in cities 00:01:13
The average population density in Europe is about 70 inhabitants per km2 00:01:18
However, the population of Europe is unevenly distributed 00:01:27
Areas with high population density 00:01:34
these mainly include countries in the middle of Europe 00:01:38
such as Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom 00:01:42
and areas with low population density 00:01:50
these include countries in Northern Europe which have very cold climates 00:01:54
such as Iceland, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Russia. 00:02:01
Population density in Spain is about 93 inhabitants per km2. 00:02:10
Most of the population of Spain is urban. 00:02:17
8 out of 10 Spaniards live in cities. 00:02:22
The most populated areas are along the coastline. 00:02:26
In the community of Madrid, on the islands and in the capital cities of the provinces. 00:02:30
The least populated areas are located inland. 00:02:38
For example, the provinces of Soria and Teruel have a population density lower than 10 inhabitants km2. 00:02:42
Migration 00:02:53
At present, Europe receives thousands of immigrants who mainly come from Africa, Asia and South America. 00:02:54
The countries with most immigrants are Russia, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Spain. 00:03:04
Immigration has the following effects. 00:03:14
Increasing population. 00:03:17
Immigrants are usually young and often have children. 00:03:20
Increase in the active population. Immigrants come to Europe for work, so the active population increases. 00:03:24
Multiculturalism. Europe is a continent with great cultural diversity. In recent years, as a consequence of the economic crisis, the number of immigrants from Spain has increased. 00:03:38
People live to find better jobs and opportunities in other countries. 00:03:55
