Before we talk about complex machines, let's review what a machine is. 00:00:02
Machines are instruments which help us perform a job a lot faster. 00:00:09
The earliest machines were invented a long time ago. 00:00:14
Examples of some of these machines are the wheel, the pulley, and the lever. 00:00:20
We call these simple machines because they don't have many moving parts. 00:00:26
What complete machines can you use now? 00:00:38
All machines need energy to function. 00:00:44
This energy can come from people or sources of nature like water, the sun, or gas or oil. 00:00:48
Or machines can get energy from electricity. 00:00:58

Complex machines can have many, many parts. 00:01:15
These machines are made of multiple simple machines that work together. 00:01:19
For example, in this picture with the crane, we can see it has wheels, a lever, and pulleys. 00:01:25

Here are some examples of complex machines. 00:01:40
A washing machine. This uses electricity to wash our clothes faster than if we were to wash our clothes by hand. 00:01:51
A tractor. This uses gas or oil to perform agriculture jobs. 00:02:00
And an airplane transports us to faraway places. 00:02:08
How would we get to the United States from Spain if we didn't have an airplane? 00:02:13
It would take a lot of days. 00:02:19

Machines are always evolving. 00:02:33
They usually start out simple and become complex and more advanced over time. 00:02:37
For example, cars didn't always used to look the way that they do now. 00:02:44
People used to travel by horse and carriage. 00:02:49
In the next picture, we can see the first car model, and it doesn't need a horse to power it. 00:02:53
This car became more advanced with a roof and sides, as you can see in the yellow car. 00:03:00
