Oliver Jeffers presents The Incredible Book-Eating Boy! 00:00:00
Henry loved books, but not like you and I love books. No, not quite. 00:00:13
Henry loved to eat books. 00:00:22
It all began quite by mistake one afternoon when he wasn't paying attention. 00:00:26
He wasn't sure at first and tried eating a single word, just to test 00:00:31
Next, he tried a whole sentence, and then the whole page 00:00:38
Yes, Henry definitely liked them 00:00:43
By Wednesday, he had eaten a whole book 00:00:46
And by the end of the month, he could eat a whole book in one go 00:00:51
Henry loved eating all sorts of books 00:00:58
Storybooks, dictionaries, joke books, books of facts 00:01:06
And even math books 00:01:11
But the red ones were his favorite 00:01:13
And he was going through them at a fierce rate 00:01:16
But here's the best bit 00:01:20
The more he ate, the smarter he got 00:01:26
He ate a book about goldfish 00:01:30
And then he knew what to feed Ginger 00:01:37
Before long, he could do his father's crossword in the newspaper 00:01:40
and was even smarter than his teacher in school. 00:01:44
Henry loved being smart. 00:01:53
He thought that if he kept going, he might even become the smartest person on earth. 00:01:55
So he kept eating books and he kept getting smarter and smarter and smarter. 00:02:01
He went from eating books whole to eating them three or four at a time. 00:02:12
Books about anything. He wasn't fuzzy, and he wanted to know it all. 00:02:17
But then things started going not quite so well. 00:02:26
In fact, they started going very, very wrong. 00:02:30
Henry was eating too many books, and too quickly at that. 00:02:35
He was beginning to feel a little ill, but here's the worst bit. 00:02:40
Everything he was learning was getting mixed up. 00:02:51
He didn't have time to digest it properly 00:02:54
It became quite embarrassing for him to speak 00:02:59
Suddenly, Henry didn't feel very smart at all 00:03:03
More than one person told him he should stop eating books 00:03:10
So, Henry gave up eating books and sat sadly for a long time 00:03:19
What was he to do? 00:03:26
Then, after a while, and almost by accident 00:03:33
Henry picked up a half-eaten book from the floor 00:03:36
but instead of putting it in his mouth 00:03:40
Henry opened it up and began to read 00:03:42
and it was so good 00:03:46
Henry discovered that he loved to read 00:03:52
and he thought that if he read enough 00:03:58
he might still become the smartest person on earth 00:04:01
it would just take a bit longer 00:04:04
now Henry reads all the time 00:04:07
Although every now and then 00:04:10
The end 00:04:12
