Okay, I'm going to talk about the about the urban culture. Okay, it was divided into two
00:00:00
kinds. Sorry, it was divided into two types of urban schools. The cathedral schools was
00:00:10
controlled by the church and was controlled and were centred on religious studies. The
00:00:23
municipal schools were public and offered more varied studies like accounting law, reading,
00:00:29
writing and medicine. Universities emerged in the middle of the 12th century, were promoted
00:00:37
by the bishops and kings. Studies were divided into four specialties or faculties, liberal
00:00:48
arts, medicine, law and theology. Okay, teaching was carried out in Latin and continued the
00:00:58
scholastic model that was called the scholasticism. That means, for example, reading a text, raising
00:01:09
a problem, discussing it and finally taking a decision. The most famous medieval universities
00:01:20
were in Paris, Oxford and Bologna. So, now I'm going to explain religiosity and enemies
00:01:28
of the faith. So, I'm going to explain crusades and military orientation. So, during the Middle
00:01:40
Ages, there were different crusades that were military expeditions convened by the Pope
00:01:47
to expel Muslims from Holy Land. Between the 11th and 13th centuries, the Pope Urban II organised the first crusade during the Council of Clermont in 1595.
00:01:53
Later, eight crusades were conducted with different results.
00:02:06
Next slide, please. In this picture, we can see the Pope Urban II in the Council of Clermont organising the first crusade.
00:02:18
In here, we have the map of the eight crusades with the routes that were for each crusade.
00:02:27
Now, I'm going to explain the military orders. So, the members of the military orders
00:02:42
were religious and military militias that were subject to both authority, poverty and chastity.
00:02:47
They were from different groups, the Knights Templars, the Knights Hospitallers and the Order of the Felicity.
00:02:55
Their mission was to defend the territory conquered by the crusaders in the Holy Land and to protect the free drinks that visited them.
00:03:03
Now, I'm going to explain the Inquisition and the Mendicant Order.
00:03:13
So, the Inquisition was created in 1230 because of the emergence of doctrines contrary to the teachings of the Church.
00:03:21
This created important religious movements such as the Waldensians, Aldegesians and Cathars.
00:03:31
The Inquisition tried to judge crimes against the faith. Furthermore, the Church intensified preaching of the new religious orders,
00:03:37
such as the Dominicans and Franciscans, that lived from the money they received from the citizens.
00:03:51
This was the beginning of the Mendicant Order.
00:03:59
In this drawing, we can see a woman being judged by the members of the Inquisition.
00:04:05
Thank you.
