So, today we are going to do a little bit of writing.
00:00:00
We have already written several stories or narrative texts along the year
00:00:04
and you know that we usually plan those stories by thinking of a setting
00:00:09
or the place where the story takes place,
00:00:13
a series of characters that participate in the story,
00:00:17
a plot with a series of actions and events,
00:00:22
and an ending, if we want our story to have an ending at all.
00:00:26
sometimes open endings make wonderful stories don't they. Now today we're going
00:00:30
to be focusing on the beginning of stories. I'm first going to show you four
00:00:37
pictures and I want you to choose one of them to use in your story. So you need to
00:00:41
choose only one of these pictures and then we're going to be writing the
00:00:46
beginning of that story. But let's start first with the pictures. Remember you
00:00:52
only need to choose one of them okay so let's start with the first picture this
00:00:57
is picture number one and this is picture number two here's picture number
00:01:03
three and now let's see picture number four so have you chosen your picture yet
00:01:21
you may want to go back and take a look at them again later anyway once you've
00:01:39
decided which picture you're going to use I want you to write the beginning of
00:01:44
story that is somehow based on that picture. Now, when we write, we want our
00:01:50
readers to enjoy what they're reading, don't we? And we want them to keep on
00:01:56
reading. When we start writing a story, in this case, we want to catch
00:02:02
their attention so that they keep on reading. So, how can we do this? How can we
00:02:07
engage our readers at the beginning of a story, in this case? Let's have a look at
00:02:11
some options we have for the beginning of a story. Now, as you know, some stories start
00:02:16
with a description of the place where they take place. But then again, is this that interesting?
00:02:22
It is certainly an option, but in my opinion, it's rather limited. How about starting with
00:02:32
something funny. It could, for instance, be related to the place, but described in a funny
00:02:41
way so that our readers want to find out more. It could be related to one of the characters
00:02:48
and something funny they've just done, for instance. Now, mysterious or rather confusing
00:02:57
beginnings also work. So here, we don't give too much information and keep it sort of mysterious.
00:03:07
remember we want them to keep on reading another option we have is to start with
00:03:14
a conversation between two or three characters in the story that way our
00:03:20
readers will be wondering who those people are and we want to know more
00:03:25
about them also talking to your reader directly addressing your reader is also
00:03:30
great way to start the story. It could be something like, something like, do you believe
00:03:37
in ghosts? I had never thought about it until one day, you know, something like that. Or,
00:03:46
what's the first thing you do after coming back from school? So, that would be probably
00:03:52
a story that takes place right after school. Okay, do you get the idea? So, once again,
00:04:00
What I want you to do is...
