Hello, it's Elizabeth here, and today I'm talking about Social Sciences 5, Unit 6, Lesson 5. 00:00:00
So today the name of the lesson is, What was the Golden Age? 00:00:09
And within this lesson we will be talking about two really important things, and those two things will be, 00:00:17
which Spanish artists became famous in the golden age and which writers were important in the golden 00:00:24
age. So we already have a hint of what this lesson is going to be about, artists and writers. So 00:00:32
let's get into it. So first we will talk about what the golden age is. So during the Habsburg 00:00:41
dynasty, many great Spanish artists and writers became famous. Because of this, the 16th and 17th 00:00:51
century are now known as the Golden Age. Okay, the first question. Which Spanish artists became 00:01:00
famous in the Golden Age? In the 16th century, the most important painter was a Greek painter 00:01:11
named El Greco. In 1577, he went to Toledo and lived there for many years. In the 17th century, 00:01:19
there were other great painters such as Murillo and Velazquez. Murillo painted religious paintings 00:01:29
and Velazquez was a painter at the court of Felipe IV. All right, and now we're going to 00:01:36
talk about the writers. The question is which writers were important in the Golden Age? 00:01:43
The most important writer was Cervantes. He wrote Don Quixote. Lope de Vega was another 00:01:52
important writer. He wrote many plays, poems, and novels. Tirso de Molina was a friend of Lope de 00:02:01
and a monk he also wrote plays short stories and poems they were very popular 00:02:10
writers at this time so just to sum it up what is the Golden Age it's the age 00:02:18
in Spain of writers and artists and it's in the 16th and 17th century all right 00:02:26
hope you enjoyed my video I will see you in the next one bye bye 00:02:34
