Hello, it is Elizabeth here, and today we are learning about Social Sciences 5, Unit 6, Lesson 4. 00:00:00
So today, our lesson is called, Who Were the Habsburgs? 00:00:10
And today we're going to talk about some really important vocabulary in this lesson. 00:00:17
So these are words that you definitely are going to need to know if you want to understand the information. 00:00:22
The first vocabulary word that we are going to talk about today is empire. 00:00:27
So empire. 00:00:36
An empire is a group of countries or states that are controlled by one leader or government. 00:00:38
So that's multiple countries or states, one leader. 00:00:45
So a really good example of this would be under the Habsburgs, Spain became an enormous international dynasty. 00:00:49
The empire included lands in Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. 00:00:59
Alright, the second vocabulary word we are going to be talking about today is dynasty. 00:01:06
So dynasty can have two meanings. 00:01:14
The first meaning can be a series of rulers of a country who all belong to the same family. 00:01:18
So that means that all the rulers are in the same family. 00:01:25
The other definition can be a period of years during which members of a particular family rule a country. 00:01:30
So one is specific to the series of rulers, and the other one is specific to the period of years ruled by those specific rulers. 00:01:38
All in the same family. 00:01:49
Okay, our third vocabulary word is actually two words, and it is economic crisis. 00:01:50
So what is an economic crisis? 00:02:00
An economic crisis is a situation in which the economy of a country experiences a sudden downturn brought on by a financial crisis. 00:02:03
So this means that a really good example of this would be that there was an economic crisis in Europe that started the decline of the Habsburg dynasty. 00:02:13
