They travel many thousands of kilometers to find you before you buy them. 00:00:28
And this does not only happen with products, it also happens with services, because you 00:00:36
can see online films or TV series that have been produced in a very distant place. 00:00:41
Of course, nations have always been in contact through trade, but in the last decades, the 00:00:51
interconnection between different parts of the world has been so intense due to the 00:00:58
increase in the efficiency of transport and communications that we really live in a different 00:01:03
era, in an interconnected world where we are all interdependent. 00:01:09
This process of growing interconnection and interdependency is what we call globalization. 00:01:16
Is globalization a positive or a negative phenomenon? 00:01:24

For example, it increases prosperity because it fosters trade and economic growth, but 00:01:32

For example, economic growth has not been the same in every country in the world. 00:01:42
Rich countries benefit a lot from globalization, much more than poor countries. 00:01:48
So even though every country in the world can grow because of globalization, some of 00:01:53

Another problem of globalization is the cultural homogenization of the world. 00:02:05
This means that today, different parts of the world have lost diversity and they have 00:02:12

For example, the way we dress, the kind of music we listen to, or the films we watch 00:02:22

That didn't happen in the past, so we have lost a rich diversity of ways of living because 00:02:32

In the process of globalization, media play a key role. 00:02:42
In the past, people learned about what happened in the world through newspapers, listening 00:02:47

But beyond legal limits, there should also be ethical limits, meaning that people should 00:04:24

Moreover, citizens should exercise their responsibility while using social networks, being aware that 00:04:37
what they do has real impact on the life of other people and on our world. 00:04:46
