what's that you hear it yes that's the adhan the call for prayer that means it's going to 00:00:09
be time for prayer soon i'm going to need to go and pray oh why do you pray i am a muslim 00:00:44
my religion is islam and being a muslim means i pray five times a day we pray at dawn time 00:00:52
midday, late afternoon, sunset, and at night, just before bed. We pray to God to 00:01:00
say thank you for all the blessings he has given us. Oh, interesting. Okay, so 00:01:09
what's Islam all about then? Well, Muslims believe that there is only one God. The 00:01:16
name of God in Arabic is Allah. He is the creator of everything. God created the 00:01:23
The moon, the sun, the stars, the sky. 00:01:30
And he created everything on earth, me and you, the plants, the flowers, the animals, 00:01:34
and even the tiniest of insects. 00:01:45
God created the entire universe. 00:01:52
There are five pillars in Islam. 00:01:59
Every Muslim must perform these five pillars. 00:02:01
They are Belief, Prayer, Charity, Fasting and Pilgrimage. 00:02:04
Belief The first pillar means to believe in God, 00:02:13
and that he is the only God, and that the Prophet Muhammad is his messenger. 00:02:20
The second pillar, prayer, is performed five times a day. 00:02:34
And like I mentioned before, we pray at dawn, midday, late afternoon, sunset, and at night. 00:02:39
That sounds like a lot of praying. 00:02:49
Is it hard? 00:02:52
No, not at all. 00:02:54
We are praying to God, and when I remember that it is God that keeps me healthy and keeps my heart beating, it makes me want to pray. 00:02:56
The third pillar is charity. 00:03:14
also known as Saka. Saka literally means purification. 00:03:16
Saka is to give only 2.5% just once a year. That means if you have 100 pounds, 00:03:23
you give 2.5% of this to the poor, which is only £2.50. If everyone in the world did this, 00:03:32
there would be no more poor people. The fourth pillar is fasting. In Arabic, 00:03:40
it is called Salm. Every Muslim in the world fasts in the month of Ramadan, eating once in 00:03:47
the morning and then when the sun goes down. Fasting helps us to remember the poor and needy 00:03:54
better. It also helps develop self-control and helps us to overcome selfishness, greed and 00:03:59
laziness. The main reason for fasting though is to please God and become closer to him. 00:04:05
Finally, the fifth pillar is pilgrimage, otherwise known as Hajj. Hajj is to visit 00:04:13
the Kaaba in Makkah during the Islamic month of Zul Hijjah. Every Muslim should go for 00:04:19
Hajj at least once in their life, if they can afford it. Everyone wears white clothes 00:04:24
to show that we are all equal. And that's it. Those are the five pillars of Islam. 00:04:29
Kha, thanks. It was very nice of you to tell me about your religion, Islam. 00:04:36
Not a problem. You can ask me anything, anytime. But right now, I need to go for my midday 00:04:41
prayer okay see you later okay bye would you like to come and see how I pray okay sure 00:04:47
