Hello, my name is Elena and I'm here to talk to you about the Treaty of Versailles. 00:00:00
The Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty signed in Versailles at the end of the First World War for more than 50 countries. 00:00:05
The First World War was between 1914 and 1918, ending with the defeat of Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. 00:00:13
When the war ended, the Allies, France, United Kingdom, USA and other allies met at the Paris Peace Conference to agree on the terms of peace with Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. 00:00:21
Different peace treaties were signed with the losers, but the Treaty of Versailles was the one that was imposed to the German Empire. 00:00:34
This treaty was signed the 28th of June of 1919 and it went into effect the 10th of January of 1920. 00:00:41
This treatment took away from Germany 13% of its territory, imposed a debt of 33,000 million euros and the almost total disarmament of its army and fleet. 00:00:52
This treaty was respected until the 16th of March of 1935 when Adolf Hitler broke it creating the Wehrmacht that were the German army forces during that period. 00:01:05
