EL BRITISH COUNCIL HA VISITADO CHG RADIO
Welcome to CHG Radio and today we have a very special program. It's going to be all English,
00:00:02
just for you to know. We've got two students from year six. Hello, Elena. Hello. And Edith.
00:00:38
Hello. Hello, welcome here to CHE Radio. We've got Luis and Esther. Hello. Hello. Welcome here, and a very, very special person.
00:00:45
She's Maureen, and she's from the British Council, and we're going to be talking to her a little bit about the project, about, well, what is it that makes us special, and I'm sure more things to come.
00:00:57
welcome marine thank you very much i'm really happy and excited to be here today okay um who
00:01:12
wants to go first uh me and what is your favorite thing about your job that's a really easy question
00:01:19
my favorite thing about my job is when i get the chance to come and visit schools when i come to
00:01:29
schools like yours and i can see actually all the fantastic work that you and your teachers
00:01:35
are doing and just how much you love um our bilingual education program that is definitely
00:01:40
the best part of my job okay could you give us an advice for us the students to get better running
00:01:46
at english um i think you've got a really excellent level of english but what i always say
00:01:52
is that the more that you read the better you're going to get at english or spanish
00:02:00
So I think a love of reading, get into the habit of reading.
00:02:05
Also get into the habit of, if you're watching TV or listening to radio, try that out in English.
00:02:09
But reading is really fundamental in improving all aspects of your English, reading, writing and speaking.
00:02:15
So love of books means much better, like English and Spanish.
00:02:23
What about your visit today? What do you think was most interesting?
00:02:30
well this radio program for a start i think this is only the second time i've ever been
00:02:34
interviewed on the radio and it's definitely the first time i've been interviewed for a school
00:02:41
radio program so that's this is a real first for me um i also think it's really important
00:02:46
to have the opportunity to get together as colleagues so meeting all of the heads again
00:02:53
talking about things that are going well
00:02:59
learning from each other
00:03:01
these conversations are so important
00:03:02
so having that chance and the space
00:03:05
to coincide
00:03:07
and just celebrate
00:03:09
I think the programme and its achievements
00:03:11
has been a really important part of today
00:03:13
Nice
00:03:15
What would you say is like
00:03:16
the staple that the British Council
00:03:19
can put on the programme
00:03:21
that makes it special?
00:03:23
I think what we do
00:03:26
is that well apart from what we are and our responsibilities are to the convenio so that's
00:03:27
teacher training research and curriculum development I think what the program does
00:03:34
and what the British Council is extremely proud of is fostering that love and these connections
00:03:39
with the UK and I can see that in all the schools that I visit you know there's a real appetite to
00:03:44
find out more about the UK to discover the UK and to actually have those links with the UK and I
00:03:49
about something that's really special and you can you can tell for example we have been doing
00:03:56
one project about scotland and um one of the tasks was um that students had to convince us
00:04:01
to travel to that place and by the end of the of the project um i really really wanted to go
00:04:08
to um you know visit scotland do you remember any of the projects that you have done like in this
00:04:16
How many years have you been here at the school?
00:04:23
How many years?
00:04:25
Nine years.
00:04:26
Yes.
00:04:27
Can you tell us something about the projects that you have done?
00:04:28
Well, we are doing a United States project right now.
00:04:33
So we get in pairs and each pair chooses a symbol from the United States
00:04:41
and investigates about it and then it presents it and we did a presentation of a country that you
00:04:50
like and after you have to book some information and facts and things like that and after we made
00:05:02
a like a book trip
00:05:11
project
00:05:16
And you have been to the Great Fire of London
00:05:19
as well, in 1666
00:05:22
remember from, that was two years
00:05:24
ago, do you remember? Yes
00:05:26
a little bit
00:05:28
Are there any songs
00:05:29
that are stuck in your head
00:05:32
from when you were studying something
00:05:34
about London? There is a very famous song
00:05:36
that every student
00:05:38
remembers, do you remember?
00:05:40
I remember one, I don't know you
00:05:42
I think if I tell you the first line, you will remember the rest.
00:05:44
Big Ben is not a person.
00:05:49
You need an infant as well.
00:05:50
Yes.
00:05:52
Right.
00:05:53
Yes.
00:05:54
So you want to sing along?
00:05:54
Can you fancy singing a little bit now?
00:05:55
No.
00:05:58
Got shy once here.
00:05:59
Any other questions that you want to...
00:06:03
Yes.
00:06:07
Do you have a favorite book?
00:06:09
oh i read all the times that's a really difficult question um i love reading reading is such an
00:06:11
important part of um of my life um i love reading in english and spanish at the moment um i'm reading
00:06:18
a really funny book called um this is going to hurt and it's about a junior doctor and his
00:06:26
adventures of being a doctor this is really funny and and entertaining um but i read all sorts of
00:06:32
different stories and so it's quite hard for me to choose a favorite book um so I'm going to get
00:06:39
back to you on that one I love the Harry Potter books for example um I'm trying to think of books
00:06:45
um that you might be aware of and and are good for like to have in your library I love those
00:06:51
and when I was little of course I read all the Enid Blyton stories they were a big part of my
00:06:57
childhood um and I love Scottish authors as well there's a whole range of authors um that I love
00:07:02
and for example Christopher Brookmeyer that sort of thing but they're I think for when you're a
00:07:10
little bit older um but yeah love books and graphic novels as well so comics I love them as well
00:07:14
what movies do you like good question um i like spanish cinema and i like british cinema so
00:07:23
kind of a bit of a mix i like stories which tell really personal stories so personal journeys and
00:07:34
stories which have happy endings i don't really like sad films so so that's the kind of films
00:07:41
that i tend to watch i also when when my children were younger i used to love all of the sort of
00:07:48
The animated films and movies, they were brilliant
00:07:54
because they were really funny and nice, like Toy Story and all of that.
00:07:58
I've got really fond memories of watching films like that.
00:08:01
Very nice.
00:08:05
Okay.
00:08:07
Well, I think that's the end of the interview.
00:08:08
I know time flies.
00:08:12
Thank you very much, Maureen, for being here with us.
00:08:14
Let's hope you can come back some other time to CHE Radio.
00:08:18
You can tell us more things.
00:08:21
Ladies, Meredith and Elena
00:08:23
Thank you very much
00:08:26
You're welcome
00:08:27

00:08:28
