To make a question with the verb to be, we take the verb, the subject and the verb, and we swap the subject and the verb around. 00:00:00
For example, I am cooking. To make a question, we can say, am I cooking? Am I cooking? 00:00:16
If we want to ask what, we can say, what am I cooking? I am cooking an omelette. 00:00:34
So, for example, what, mm, mm, plus the verb, plus ing. 00:00:47
Let's say the verb is do. 00:01:00
And we want to ask what somebody is doing. 00:01:04
It's not what you are doing. 00:01:17
Remember, we need to change the you and the are. 00:01:21
So, what you are doing becomes, what are you doing? 00:01:24
So, if we look at some example sentences using the verb to be, we can swap the subject and the verb to make a question. 00:01:36
For example, you are learning. This is an affirmative sentence. It's true. You are learning. 00:01:49
But to make a question, we will change you and are. And what is the question? Are you learning? 00:02:01
Are you learning? What about it is sleeping? This is an affirmative sentence. It is sleeping. 00:02:14
To make a question, we change it and is. So, it is sleeping becomes, is it sleeping? 00:02:31
Yes, it is. Or no, it is not. What about we are playing tennis? How can we make it a question? 00:02:43
We are playing tennis becomes are we playing tennis? Yes, we are. Or no, we are not. And 00:03:02
They are talking. How can we make they are talking a question? We change they and are and the question is are they talking? Yes they are or no they are not. 00:03:16
