Hi guys! Let's do some revision of the unit Machines. 00:00:00
In this unit, we have learned that machines in general help us every day to make work and life easier. 00:00:06
As you already know, there are two types of machines. 00:00:15
Simple machines and complex machines. 00:00:19
Remember, simple machines are based on just one element. 00:00:22
Did you know that there are six different kinds of simple machines? 00:00:27
Let's see if you can name all of them. 00:00:33
They are the lever, the screw, the inclined plane, the pulley, the wedge and the wheel and axle. 00:00:36
Which one of those machines would you use to lift a very heavy sofa from the street 00:00:47
and get it inside your sitting room through the balcony? 00:00:55
Exactly, a pulley, which consists of a rope and a wheel. 00:01:01
On the other hand, complex machines are formed by two or more simple machines, a wheelbarrow, 00:01:07
A hairdryer or a computer are examples of complex machines. 00:01:15
In this unit, we have also learned about inventors and inventions. 00:01:21
Many people throughout history have invented machines. 00:01:28
These machines have changed people's lives and made work easier. 00:01:34
What was the name of that amazing mathematician that invented the screw and many war machines? 00:01:39
Archimedes. 00:01:49
There have been other inventions like the windscreen wiper by Mary Anderson in 1903. 00:01:51
The windscreen wiper is nowadays a standard part of all cars. 00:02:01
Moreover, the pedal bicycle was invented by Kirkpatrick Macmillan and the first power plane was designed, built and flew by the Wright brothers. 00:02:05
We don't forget to mention Rube Goldberg Machines. We are both looking forward to seeing all your creations. 00:02:20
Some of the ones we have received are great. 00:02:29
We hope that you have learned a lot during this unit and that you've had a lot of fun. 00:02:34
Bye-bye! 00:02:42
