Hello, today we're going to talk about prehistory. 00:00:00
The period known as prehistory began when the first human beings appeared, about 2.5 million years ago. 00:00:31
Prehistory ended when writing was invented, over 5,000 years ago. 00:00:43
This period is divided into the Paleolithic Age, the Neolithic Age and the Metal Ages. 00:00:50
The Paleolithic and Neolithic Ages are also known as the Stone Age. 00:00:58
The Paleolithic Age. Paleolithic women and men lived from hunting, fishing and gathering fruit. 00:01:04
they were predators. They were also nomads because they moved from one place to another 00:01:16
looking for food and materials. They did not have permanent homes and often found refuge 00:01:24
in caves or rock shelters. It was at this time that fire was discovered. Paleolithic 00:01:33
Neolithic women and men were also responsible for making the first works of art, by engraving 00:01:42
or painting the walls of caves and rock shelters. 00:01:49
Cave paintings have been discovered in the Iberian Peninsula. 00:01:55
One of these discoveries is the cave of Altamira, in the north of Spain. 00:02:00
The Neolithic Age 00:02:07
The Neolithic Age started when women and men learned to cultivate the land, which was the 00:02:08
beginning of agriculture, and when they learned to domesticate animals, which was the beginning 00:02:15
of livestock farming. 00:02:22
Since humans now could produce their own food, they did not need to move from one place to 00:02:26
another and became sedentary. 00:02:31
This was the time when the first settlements appeared. 00:02:33
The Neolithic settlements were located on flat, fertile ground near rivers and were 00:02:40
usually surrounded by walls made of weeds and mud. 00:02:46
The women and men lived in huts made of adobe. 00:02:51
the metal agents metallurgy was invented 5 000 years before christ 00:02:59
when humans discovered metal and how to work it settlements became larger and had stone walls 00:03:05
around them skilled metal workers became artisans and soon after trade and transport developed 00:03:13
The Metal Ages ended when writing was invented, about 3000 years before Christ. 00:03:23
