recording is on hi everyone welcome to our class in today's lesson we're going 00:00:01
to have a look at vocabulary related to accommodation and holidays but before we 00:00:07
do that as we always do I'm going to remind you about the three class rules 00:00:15
that we need to follow okay the video needs to remain on so you're focused on 00:00:21
the lesson you need to mute your microphones and of course if you have 00:00:31
questions you can always use the tab okay and ask me questions there these 00:00:37
are the units objectives we're going to learn new vocabulary as I said about 00:00:45
Accumulation and Holidays and I'm going to present the vocabulary using our PowerPoint. 00:00:53
As I said, if you have questions, please do not hesitate to use the chat. We're going to do a quiz 00:01:00
and I'm going to ask you some questions to check your understanding of the new vocabulary 00:01:07
and then we're going to do some practice. So you'll have to describe your ideal holiday 00:01:12
using some of the new words we've learned in this lesson and this is what we're going to do 00:01:18
for the lesson today recording is on since there are no questions about the unit's objectives 00:01:24
as we have said i'm going to share a PowerPoint with you with some hopefully new words vocabulary 00:01:35
words related to accommodation okay and here is the powerpoint i'm sharing with you as we said 00:01:43
we are going to have a look at some words about accommodation and here are the words we have a 00:01:54
cabin which is a small house made of wood okay this is the material wood comes from tree trunks 00:02:05
We also have a camper van, which is a motor vehicle. 00:02:12
This is a very interesting word to remember, very easy for us Spanish speakers because it's very similar to the word vehículo. 00:02:18
The next slide shows a caravan, which is also a vehicle that has a bed for sleeping. 00:02:28
and it's usually equipped with a small kitchen so you can cook something 00:02:34
and it can be pulled by a car. 00:02:39
A cottage, which is a very British word, it's a small house in the country. 00:02:45
The country, this is the country, okay? 00:02:51
It's the opposite of the city. 00:02:55
It's not in the city, but in the country. 00:02:57
A guest house is a private house, so it's not a hotel, 00:03:00
that offers accommodation to people who pay, to paying guests. 00:03:04
Guests are the people staying at the house or at the hotel. 00:03:09
We have a holiday camp, which is a place for holiday makers, 00:03:14
people who go on holiday, with entertainment, accommodation, 00:03:20
and different facilities. 00:03:24
Please pay attention to this word because it is tricky. 00:03:26
It's similar to the Spanish word fafil, 00:03:29
But facilities has a completely different meaning. It means the equipment something has. 00:03:32
So, for example, our school facilities would be the canteen or the computer lab or maybe the team. 00:03:38
Those are facilities. We'll have a holiday home, which is a home that someone owns, possesses, in addition to their usual home. 00:03:47
So, they would have their daily home, so to say, and then a holiday home where they go on holiday. 00:03:57
So, they have two homes in total. 00:04:02
Do you have any questions? 00:04:06
Please, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. 00:04:08
As I see there are no questions, I would like to ask you one. 00:04:16
to check if you have understood the meaning of the words we've seen and to do this 00:04:21
we're going to use an app that you already know which is mentimeter menti so you're going to go 00:04:35
to www.menti.com and you're going to use this code okay this is the code we're going to use this time 00:04:43
which is 855732 and this is the question that you need to answer what would be your perfect holiday 00:04:50
accommodation but to make it a bit more challenging for you please avoid using words like hotel for 00:05:01
example or youth hostel i would like for you to use some of the new words we've seen in the year 00:05:08
Okay. You have 50 seconds to answer. And I see some answers already, which are great. I'd love to travel in a camper van. Excellent use of the word camper van. Or my family and I always stay at a guest house. Excellent job. Or we have a summer cottage by the sea. 00:05:14
So, I can see that you've understood the new words perfectly. 00:05:37
So, I'm going to keep on going and show you some words related to holidays. 00:05:42
As you've done an excellent job with the first set of words, let's have a look at the second one. 00:05:54
And as I said, this one is related to holidays. 00:05:59
And as usual, I'm going to share a presentation with you, okay? 00:06:04
So, as we said, we're going to have a look at some words related to holidays. 00:06:10
The first one is a city break. 00:06:18
To take a city break means to take a short holiday in a city. 00:06:20
So, for example, we live in Madrid, we go to Paris for the weekend, that would be a city break. 00:06:24
Very, very easy. 00:06:30
couch surfing this is a funny word it means to stay for a short time in a series of other people's 00:06:30
houses and you don't pay okay you stay there for free maybe for a couple of days that's couch 00:06:39
surfing a couch is a sofa okay this is a couch the next word is house swapping and we already 00:06:45
know the word swap it means to change so basically it means to exchange houses i go to your house 00:06:54
and you come to mine? A timeshare apartment is a house that belongs to 00:07:00
different people and they use it for a particular period of the year. It means 00:07:06
that, for example, you and I are the owners of the apartment and I use it in 00:07:10
May and you use it in June, for example. Do you have any questions? There is a 00:07:15
vocabulary of words. So now to check out your understanding of these words 00:07:22
related to holidays and the ones we've seen before about accommodation, we are 00:07:28
going to do a quiz about holidays and accommodation and I'm going to walk you 00:07:34
through the questions in case you have a doubt, a question. First 00:07:41
question, where would you sleep if you went couchsurfing? As you can see it has 00:07:46
an open answer. What is a guest house? Question number three. Name one advantage 00:07:53
of traveling by caravan. And this one is a bit different. This one is a true-false 00:08:00
question. Cottages can be found in cities. Is that true or is that false? And to 00:08:05
answer these questions to answer the quest we are going to work in teams so 00:08:15
we are going to have six teams okay and I'm posting the people who are in each 00:08:24
team in the chat so please have a look at the chat and if you don't know which 00:08:34
team you are, please ask me, okay? Okay, do we have any questions? As there are no 00:08:40
questions, we are going to start working on the quiz and let's see who wins. Okay, 00:08:50
now that we have finished, we are going to move on to the next. Now that we have 00:09:00
finished as i was saying we're going to move on to the next and last activity and this one you're 00:09:20
going to do for homework it's a vocabulary review and we're going to use partner and you're very 00:09:27
very used to to this app as well okay as i said you're doing this as homework and it's a vocabulary 00:09:35
review you need to post a post explaining what your ideal holidays would be okay and I've included 00:09:42
an example here so I book a cottage for a couple of weeks to spend time with my family that would 00:09:53
be my ideal holidays so as you can see here I've used and this is a requirement one of the new words 00:10:00
we've seen in the unit. 00:10:08
So I'm going to repeat the instructions again 00:10:10
in case there are questions. 00:10:11
You need to post two, three, four sentences 00:10:14
explaining your ideal holidays. 00:10:20
And you need to use some of the words, 00:10:24
some of the new words we've seen in the unit. 00:10:27
And this is all for today's classroom, okay? 00:10:31
See you tomorrow. 00:10:34
And if you have any questions, 00:10:35
please remember that you can always email me. Bye! 00:10:37
