Hi, this is Joelle Meijer. 00:00:00
I will show you how to make an Olympic torch. 00:00:01
Are you ready for the Olympic torch relay? 00:00:04
For this project you will mainly need a long tube, 00:00:07
a small paper plate, a roll of toilet paper, waxed paper and paint. 00:00:10
Start by cutting a slice of the toilet paper roll 00:00:16
and glue it in the centre of the small plate with white glue. 00:00:19
Let dry. 00:00:23
Take a sheet of paper and fold it in half to get the appropriate size. 00:00:26
Create a pattern by drawing the profile of a large flame 00:00:31
or use the pattern provided in the free document. 00:00:34
Cut out the pattern. 00:00:39
Take a piece of wax paper that is at least twice the size of the pattern of the flame. 00:00:43
Spread diluted white glue or mod podge on the waxed paper 00:00:51
and then cover the surface with a sheet of yellow tissue paper. 00:00:54
Let dry. 00:00:59
When the yellow tissue paper is dry, 00:01:02
trace the outline of the pattern of the big flame on one half of the tissue paper 00:01:04
and then reverse the pattern and trace the outline 00:01:10
on the other half of the yellow tissue paper. 00:01:13
Now draw a smaller flame inside the pattern 00:01:18
and cut it out to get the pattern of a medium size flame. 00:01:21
Take a piece of orange tissue paper that you fold in half. 00:01:26
Trace the outline of the medium size flame pattern on the orange tissue paper 00:01:31
and cut both layers of tissue paper. 00:01:35
Spread diluted white glue or mod podge on the yellow tissue paper 00:01:40
and place an orange flame on one of the yellow flames. 00:01:44
Then reverse the other orange flame and glue it on the other yellow flame. 00:01:48
Let dry. 00:01:53
Draw a smaller flame inside the medium sized pattern 00:01:56
and cut it to form the pattern for a smaller flame. 00:01:59
Take a piece of red tissue paper that you fold in half. 00:02:05
Trace the outline of the small flame on the tissue paper 00:02:09
and cut both layers of tissue paper. 00:02:12
Spread diluted white glue or mod podge on the orange tissue paper 00:02:17
and place a small red flame on one of the orange flames. 00:02:21
Then reverse the other red flame and glue it on the other orange flame. 00:02:26
When it's dry, brush the red tissue paper with diluted white glue or mod podge 00:02:32
to make it shiny as well and let dry. 00:02:37
Take the plate with the ring of toilet paper roll that you glued earlier 00:02:42
and paint both sides of the plate in a colour of your choice. 00:02:46
I choose to paint this part of the torch in gold. 00:02:51
Because the gold paint is very transparent, 00:02:55
I begin by painting with a solid colour very close to the gold colour. 00:02:57
When the ochre paint is dry, I put a layer of gold paint. 00:03:03
Then paint the handle of the torch in a colour of your choice. 00:03:08
I choose to paint the handle white. 00:03:12
Let dry. 00:03:15
When the plate and the handle are dry, flip the plate over 00:03:17
and put white glue on the edge of the tube. 00:03:21
Glue the long tube in the centre of the back of the plate. 00:03:25
Let dry completely. 00:03:28
Take the wax paper covered with tissue paper and cut both sides of the flame. 00:03:31
Take one of the sides of the flame and place it with the waxed paper side up. 00:03:38
Put a thin bead of white glue all along the edge of the flame 00:03:45
with the exception of the bottom. 00:03:49
Overlap both sides of the flame exactly. 00:03:53
To obtain good adhesion of both sides, 00:03:57
put clothespins along the edge of the flame for a few minutes. 00:04:00
Then remove the clothespins and let dry completely. 00:04:04
To mount the flame on the torch, open the bottom of the flame 00:04:10
and insert the ring of the toilet paper roll into the hole of the flame. 00:04:13
If you are going to use the Olympic torch during the day, 00:04:19
glue the flame on the plate with white glue and let dry. 00:04:22
To use the torch in the evening, put a lead candle in the ring created with a roll of 00:04:26
toilet paper and then place the tissue paper flame as in the previous step 00:04:31
and glue the flame with a glue gun or with a few discreet pieces of scotch tape. 00:04:36
