Hello, my name is Clara Fernandez Barra and I'm Associate Arts Professor at New York University. 00:00:00
I have taught game design and interactive narrative for many years internationally 00:00:23
and I am very excited to come home to Madrid to share what I know. What I will teach is a 00:00:28
workshop on digital fiction writing, which means writing interactive stories that you 00:00:34
can read on your computer or your phone. This is an introduction course. You don't 00:00:39
need to know any programming beforehand. If you teach in the humanities, things 00:00:45
like language and history, this is really a class for you. I come from the 00:00:49
humanities myself. I studied English at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and 00:00:53
what I teach is precisely for people who might not consider themselves very 00:00:58
technical. I really like teaching this workshop. We learn how to write 00:01:02
interactive stories in the format of choose your own adventure books where the reader chooses what 00:01:07
to do. We will also learn the basics on how to write conversational games where the player types 00:01:13
in what they want to do. These two interactive formats are quite easy to make with tools that 00:01:19
are available online for free. By learning how to use the tools that we will cover, you will be able 00:01:25
to create interactive materials for your own classes. These are games that your students can 00:01:30
read and play. It can be a very engaging way of presenting materials. You could also teach your 00:01:36
students how to use those tools themselves. They can create their own wholesome stories. 00:01:41
It could become, for example, a creative writing exercise. They could also adapt a pre-existing 00:01:46
story from literature, or they could recreate a historical situation. It's really up to you. 00:01:51
