We are Ardenti Silva. We take part in Climate Detectives 2023. We are from IES Principe Felipe in Madrid. 00:00:00
We have been investigating forest fires and we have collected the data of one that happened in Hermesende last year. 00:00:15
We chose this topic because forest fires are one of the main problems in Spain. 00:00:23
We have been collecting data of the Hermesende forest fire through EO Browser. 00:00:28
We saw that the firemen took 5 days to end up with the fire. 00:00:33
From 29th of January to 2nd of February the land of Fagora was burned. 00:00:39
In these satellite images we can see the before, the during and the after of the land being burned. 00:00:44
The land took 5 months to recover from the fire. 00:00:51
We found that almost 95% of the forest fires are caused by humans, 00:00:56
with actions like dropping cigarettes, leaving rubbish and doing bonfires irresponsibly. 00:01:01
Forest fires produce gases that harm the atmosphere and destroy plant life, leading to less oxygen production that harms the animals. 00:01:07
As conclusions, we could say that forest fires are caused mainly by irresponsible people or even by pyromaniacs that want to see their forest burned. 00:01:17
These fires burn plants, and as plant population decreases, it produces less oxygen, so the animals have less of it in the air to breathe. 00:01:24
The gases released by fires also damage the atmosphere, and they contribute to greenhouse effect, which makes the world warming and destroys the Earth's climate. 00:01:32
To reduce the number of forest fires, we should stop actions such as dropping cigarettes, trash or glass in the woods. 00:01:42
People doing barbecues or bonfires should also do them responsibly and only when there is nothing 00:01:48
