excretory system. What do you already know? You already know there are three 00:00:06
vital functions nutrition, interaction and reproduction. Interaction. We have 00:00:25
five senses and each sense has an organ. We use our senses to recognize what is 00:00:41
happening around us. They are hearing, sight, smell, touch and taste. There are 00:00:48
two systems that take part in the process of interaction. They are the 00:01:01
nervous system and the locomotor system. Our senses work together with our 00:01:06
nervous system in the life process of interaction. Our locomotor system is made 00:01:15
up of bones, muscles and joints. It uses nutrients from food and oxygen to work. 00:01:22
We use our locomotor system to move, eat and speak. Our bodies need nutrients from 00:01:30
foods to live and grow. There are five different types of nutrients. Carbohydrates. They give us 00:01:41
energy. Don't eat sugary cereals. Eat wholemeal bread. Fruit and vegetables. Fruit and vegetables 00:01:49
contain minerals and vitamins that are essential for our health. Cetic fruits, oranges, limes and 00:02:02
lemons contain vitamin C that prevent you from getting colds. You should eat 00:02:12
five fruits and vegetables a day. Proteins. Pulses, fish, meat and dairy. Protein 00:02:18
helps you grow. Proteins build tissues and organs of the body. Milk and cheese 00:02:30
contain calcium that help you have strong bones and teeth. Dairy and 00:02:37
alternatives milk and cheese contain calcium that help you have strong bones 00:02:47
and teeth fats healthy fats are essential for our bodies they give 00:02:53
energy to ourselves and some organs need them to function like the brain and the 00:03:04
heart digestive system how can we get these nutrients from food there is one 00:03:11
system that obtains nutrients from food. This system is a digestive system. Our digestive 00:03:21
systems help us get the nutrients from food. Let's watch this video to see how the digestive system 00:03:31
works. Hello friends and welcome to a new happy learning video. Today we're going to learn about 00:03:42
the digestive system and digestion so that our body can make the most of the food we eat 00:03:56
it must first transform itself into a simple substance called nutrients these nutrients are 00:04:02
then transported by our blood around our body to be used and converted into energy 00:04:09
this food transformation process is called digestion and is done in the digestive system 00:04:16
The digestive system is a very long tube through which the food travels and is made up of the following parts. 00:04:23
The mouth, this is where the digestive journey begins. 00:04:30
The teeth both chop and grind up the food we eat. 00:04:34
Once it has been made into a ball, it is pushed down the food pipe to the pharynx. 00:04:37
The pharynx is a cavity which shares the digestive system with the respiratory system. 00:04:42
It is from the pharynx that the food goes to the esophagus. 00:04:48
The esophagus is a soft muscular tube that moves food further down to the stomach. 00:04:50
The stomach is a widening of the digestive tube. 00:04:57
It creates a movement which allows food with a mixture of gastric fluids. 00:05:01
Once this process has been done, it then travels to the small intestine. 00:05:06
The small intestine is called small because of its width, not its length. 00:05:11
It is actually a lot longer than the large intestine, measuring up to 7 meters in length. 00:05:14
Almost as wide as a football goal from post to post. 00:05:20
Well, it is here in the small intestine where the food digestion journey ends. 00:05:24
Now it is up to fluid processes by two glands, the liver and the pancreas, 00:05:28
to finalize the transformation from foods to nutrients. 00:05:33
Once the food is converted into nutrients, they then traverse the small intestine's walls 00:05:37
and filter into our blood where they are then made good use of by all of our body's cells. 00:05:42
But what happens to the food that our body doesn't need? 00:05:48
All that, such as fiber, for example, is transferred into the large intestine. 00:05:52
The large intestine is a thick tube which accumulates substances which our organism cannot digest, 00:05:59
and it is where water from these substances is absorbed. 00:06:06
The substances then form fissile matter, or what we call poop, and it comes out of the anus. 00:06:11
Ah, it sounds a little bit disgusting, but that's how our body works. 00:06:18
Anyway, friends, I hope you found the digestive system and digestion as interesting as I did. 00:06:24

Our excretory systems or urinary systems help our bodies to remove waste products and excess of water. 00:06:57
If you want to know more about this system, have a look to these two videos. 00:07:06
Hey friends, excuse me. 00:07:24
It feels so good to attend the call of nature. 00:07:36
Hey, I'm sorry to leave you in the middle of our conversation 00:07:40
But it always is important not to hold your pee for a longer period 00:07:45
As it might cause certain complications 00:07:51
But first, it's essential to know how your urinary system works 00:07:55
So, without wasting more time, let's zoom in 00:08:01
The urinary system comes into play for the disposal of liquid waste 00:08:05
Our bodies keep generating a lot of hazardous and unwanted liquid waste 00:08:12
These are toxic waste products which will circulate in our blood until disposed of 00:08:18
And as excess water can be waste too, our body gets rid of it through the urinary system 00:08:25
So, how does it work? 00:08:33
The urinary system starts here in our kidneys. 00:08:37
These organs are located in the upper abdominal area against the back muscles on both the left and right side of the body that acts like filter devices for our body. 00:08:41
When the blood passes through the kidneys, it gets cleaned and separates the waste compound. 00:08:56
This waste combines with excess water, makes urine, which we generally call pee. 00:09:03
After that, the urine is pumped down through a couple of tubes called the urethas, leading to the bladder. 00:09:12
A pouch like organ that holds the pee until the body is ready to get rid of it. 00:09:20
And you feel like going to the bathroom. 00:09:28
And finally, the bladder contracts and pushes the pee into another tube, we call the urethra, which carries the pee out of the body. 00:09:31
Trivia time! 00:09:43
Did you know, if you make the habit of holding your pee for ages, you're subjecting yourself to severe long-term effects, including a higher risk of infection. 00:09:45
Constantly holding in your pee can weaken your bladder muscles 00:09:57
Which could lead to urinary retention 00:10:02
A dreaded condition that prevents you from being able to fully empty your bladder when you pee 00:10:05
And makes you feel like peeing a lot 00:10:12
So, in the interest of long term health 00:10:15
It's not a good habit to hold your pee for too long 00:10:20
But fortunately, for the short term, your brain and body have got you covered 00:10:24
It's question time! 00:10:31
So friends, today's question is 00:10:34
Are kidneys named after kidney beans or it's the beans named after the kidneys? 00:10:37
I got you! I was just kidding friends 00:10:46
Let me not hold you for too long and ask you the question 00:10:49
So today's question is, where does the urinary system start? 00:10:53

Kids Health presents How the Body Works with Chloe and the Nurb. 00:11:37
Hello there, Nurb. 00:11:56
Chloe, what are you doing up there? 00:12:10
Looking for a learning adventure. 00:12:14
Okay, good luck. 00:12:17
Hope you find a good one. 00:12:18
Oh, I already have. 00:12:19
Tell me, Nurb, what do you know about the urinary system? 00:12:22
Way too much. 00:12:25
No, seriously, what do you know? 00:12:28
Uh, there's some bean-shaped things and maybe some tubes? 00:12:31
Precisely, and also imprecisely. 00:12:35
You see, the urinary tract begins with the kidneys, which are the two bean-shaped things. 00:12:38
The kidneys are organs the size of your fists that sit under your ribs along your back. 00:12:43
Kidneys filter blood to remove waste. 00:12:48
That waste and extra water combine to make urine, which is also called pee. 00:12:50
Um, Chloe? 00:12:57
After the kidneys, it's pretty much just plumbing. 00:12:58
The urine enters two small tubes, one coming from each kidney. 00:13:01
Chloe? 00:13:05
Those are called the ureters. 00:13:06
They lead to the bladder. 00:13:08
The bladder is a sac that holds the pee. 00:13:10
Chloe! 00:13:13
Right now, your bladder is probably feeling very full, 00:13:15
since you look really stressed out about it. 00:13:18
When it's time to go to the bathroom, 00:13:21
the smooth muscle of the bladder contracts 00:13:23
to push pee into another tube called 00:13:26
the urethra, which carries the pee out of the body. 00:13:28
Chloe, you know that typically I'd 00:13:32
love to learn anything, anything about the human body. 00:13:34
But right now, right now, I think 00:13:37
I'd really prefer to talk about anything, anything but pee. 00:13:39
Oh, I'm sorry, Nurb. 00:13:44
Nurb, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. 00:13:46
It's just that staying hydrated is incredibly important to keep the human body running well. 00:13:51
Fluids of all kinds help keep us hydrated. 00:14:06
But nothing does it as well as water. 00:14:09
Oh, yes. 00:14:11
Tell me more about water, Chloe. 00:14:12
Our bodies are actually made of water. 00:14:15
Sixty percent of our body mass is just water. 00:14:18
Have another sip, Chloe. 00:14:21
Chloe, talk to me about hydration. 00:14:22
We feel better and even think better when we drink enough water. 00:14:26
Plus, it's delicious and refreshing. 00:14:29
Drinking water keeps you from getting dehydrated. 00:14:32
That's when you don't drink enough water and you feel dizzy and sick. 00:14:35
How is that water, Chloe? 00:14:40
It's great. I feel very hydrated. 00:14:42
Did you know that you can tell if you've drunk enough water by the color of your pee? 00:14:47
If you're well hydrated, your pee will be light yellow 00:14:51
because your body has plenty of extra water to get rid of. 00:14:54
If you're dehydrated, your pee may be a darker yellow 00:14:58
because your body is holding on to the water instead of peeing it out. 00:15:01
Have you had enough water, Chloe? 00:15:05
Yeah, I think I have. 00:15:09
And now we wait. 00:15:11
To pee! 00:15:14
Get in line, sister. It's going to be a wait. 00:15:19
But I can't wait. 00:15:22
I just drank this whole bottle of water. 00:15:23
What could possibly be going on in there? 00:15:26
Just take a deep breath and think 00:15:29
of all those happily hydrated cells sloshing around 00:15:31
in your body, full of all that water you just drank. 00:15:34
That's it. 00:15:38
I'm busting in there. 00:15:39
Grandpa Jebediah Nurb? 00:15:42
Eh? 00:15:53
Who's that? 00:15:54
I'm trying to nap here. 00:15:55
Nap? 00:15:57
Nap? 00:15:58
I've been waiting all this time. 00:15:59
and you've been napping? 00:16:01
It's the only place to grab some peace and quiet around here. 00:16:04
Excuse me, Grandpa Nurb, but do you 00:16:06
think you could let us pee? 00:16:09
Yeah, yeah. 00:16:11
Keep your pants on. 00:16:12
You know what they say, ladies first. 00:16:15
Oh, no, that's what humans say. 00:16:17
In Nurbis, the saying goes, he who shows up first to urinate 00:16:19
is allowed to be the first to urinate. 00:16:24
Oh, come on. 00:16:28
You just made that up. 00:16:29
How does the excretory system work? 00:16:31
The blood goes through the kidneys. Waste and excess of water is what bluish blood contains. 00:16:56
The kidneys remove the excess of water and waste from the blood and transforms it into urine. 00:17:04
The urine goes down through the ureters. 00:17:14
The urine goes down to the bladder. 00:17:23
The bladder collects the urine. 00:17:28
When it is full, it sends a message to the brain. 00:17:30
It is time to go to the toilet. 00:17:35
The urethra is a short tube. 00:17:39
Urine goes down here and leaves our bodies when we go to the toilet. 00:17:43
Every day our kidneys process around 200 liters of blood. 00:17:47
And around 1-2 liters of waste is removed as urine. 00:17:55
