Hello Madrid teachers. My name is Dr. Enid Larsen. I'm from Beverly, 00:00:00
Massachusetts. I'm here to describe the course that I'm offering this summer 00:00:20
called Integrated Arts in the Classroom. Make learning come alive with visual 00:00:24
arts, music, drama, movement. The value of this course is that the arts are 00:00:30
powerful. Children have so many different learning styles and preferences that the more tools that we 00:00:37
have in our toolbox, the stronger our teaching capacity is. But we also know, importantly, that 00:00:42
using more parts of the brain strengthens subject learning, content learning. It also results in 00:00:48
more of a holistic experience because we're using the senses and we're using the emotions and the 00:00:55
physical body in learning. The classroom is enlightened, not only the children's learning, 00:00:59
but also your teaching. The best way we're going to do this is to engage you in studio work. You're 00:01:04
going to be engaged in all of these kinds of art practices. We're going to use the Madrid Guidelines 00:01:10
for the primary curriculum, and this course is appropriate for all teachers, whether you've had 00:01:15
art exposure or not. What it does take is a willingness to engage, a willingness to experiment, 00:01:21
and a willingness to allow yourself to not know everything, just like your students. And hopefully 00:01:27
in doing that we will also develop some more empathy for our students' learning. 00:01:33
We will create a classroom culture in which your learning will come alive. 00:01:37
So I look so forward to seeing you this summer. 00:01:41
Thank you very much. 00:01:44
