Welcome to MooMooMath and Science. In this video I'd like to talk about the phylum
00:00:00
cnidarians. Cnidarians are invertebrates that are famous for stinging
00:00:05
cells and they have radial symmetry. Let's take a look at probably the most
00:00:12
famous cnidarian, the jellyfish. Cnidarians are famous for their sting.
00:00:18
However, some do have a sting in which they inject venom and others entangle their prey
00:00:52
with sticky hairs or tentacles.
00:00:59
Here's what a harpoon would look like from a cnidarian with a stinging cell.
00:01:03
There are two main types of cnidarians.
00:01:09
The medusa have their tentacles hanging down.
00:01:13
Let's take a look at a medusa in which the tentacles are facing upward.
00:01:17
The sea anemone is the most famous here.
00:01:34
Nadarians move by jet propulsion inside their bell and what happens is that it allows them
00:01:53
to propel themselves forward, not real fast, but it works.
00:02:01
Sea anemones move also.
00:02:07
They move very slowly over the rocks or they may move with a wiggle with their base.
00:02:20
Take a look at this example.
00:02:26
Cnidarians do not have a central nervous system but they do have a very crude nervous system
00:02:40
or a nervous net.
00:02:45
Cnidarians can reproduce both sexually and asexually and with asexual reproduction they
00:02:49
bud or they divide into a new organism.
00:02:57
Here's an example of one life cycle.
00:03:01
There are your cnidarians, the stinging
00:03:05
or sticky animals. They sometimes
00:03:08
run your visit to the beach. Thanks for watching.
