Our body is a complex machine and the fill it needs comes in the form of 00:00:00
different nutrients. Let's take a closer look at what each of these nutrients 00:00:12
carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals actually does for us. 00:00:17
Carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are the body's primary source of energy. They 00:00:24
fuel various bodily functions and are particularly important for providing 00:00:30
energy to the brain and muscles. Carbohydrates are especially found in 00:00:34
grains but they are also present in foods like fruits, vegetables and legumes. 00:00:39
Proteins. Proteins are essential for growth, repair and maintenance of body 00:00:48
tissues. They play a crucial role in building muscles and immune system 00:00:56
components. Protein-rich foods include meat, fish, dairy, legumes, nuts and seeds. 00:01:00
Fats. Healthy fats such as those found in nuts, seeds, avocados and extra virgin 00:01:12
olive oil are important for brain health, keeping our bodies warm and overall 00:01:22
function but need to be consumed in small quantities. Sweets, pastries and 00:01:27
salted snacks are unhealthy and should be consumed occasionally. 00:01:34
Vitamins. Vitamins are organic compounds that support various bodily processes. 00:01:40
They help with immune function, bone health because vitamin D helps absorb 00:01:47
calcium, blood clotting and more. Vitamins are typically obtained from a diverse 00:01:53
diet that includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. 00:01:59
Minerals. Minerals are inorganic elements crucial for various bodily processes. 00:02:06
Calcium is essential for bone health, iron is necessary for oxygen transport 00:02:13
in blood and potassium helps maintain fluid balance and nerve function. 00:02:18
Minerals are found in foods like dairy products, leafy greens, nuts and lean 00:02:23
meats. In essence, what we eat directly influences how our body functions. 00:02:29
Carbohydrates keep us energized, proteins help with growth and repair, healthy fats 00:02:36
support our brain, while vitamins and minerals ensure our various bodily 00:02:42
processes run smoothly. So, the next time you sit down for a meal, remember that 00:02:46
you are not just eating, you are providing your body with the tools it 00:02:52
needs to thrive. 00:02:55
