hello it is elizabeth here and today i want to talk to you about social sciences five unit six 00:00:01
lesson one so this is the first lesson that we are talking about today of unit six and it is about 00:00:09
spain early modern spain to be precise okay so what happened in early modern spain 00:00:18
the early modern age began with the discovery of america in 1492 and ended with the french 00:00:27
revolution in 1789 all right so that's 1492 to 1789 all righty so agriculture was the main 00:00:35
economic activity during this time but trade was growing because people started traveling 00:00:48
all right society was split into three groups here we have the clergy the nobles and the commoners 00:00:55
all righty so the nobles and the clergy had special privileges they had the power to govern 00:01:07
and they didn't pay taxes commoners had no special privileges does that seem fair 00:01:17
already commoners who lived in cities were merchants doctors artisans or shopkeepers 00:01:25
the commoners who lived in the countryside usually worked on the farm and sometimes they 00:01:34
even lived in terrible conditions so if you go to your book on page 21 of your social sciences 00:01:40
five book you'll find a fun little time fact which i want to talk about today and the time fact says 00:01:47
that there were many advances in medicine in the early modern age. So for example, one of these 00:01:54
was leeches to cure a fever. So nowadays we don't use leeches to cure a fever, but we still do use 00:02:02
leeches in medicine. All right, so now let's do a quick review of the vocabulary that we talked 00:02:10
about today. We have agriculture, trade, traveling, privileges, and conditions. 00:02:17
All right, I will see you next time. Have a great day! 00:02:30
