Hi, I'm Ines. I'm a student of the IES Joaquín Araujo High School and I participate in Global Scholars. 00:00:05
Global Scholars is a community in which different high schools from all around the world come together virtually and discuss different topics. 00:00:14
This year's topic is a really important one that really matters when we are talking about health and it's food. 00:00:24
because we need to improve our diets so that we can grow healthier. 00:00:31
Our first project in this unit was to research about a local product produced in your area 00:00:38
and I chose chard. 00:00:46
It's a vegetable that has been lived and it's really soft 00:00:49
and that is grown here in Parque Agrario. 00:00:54
Parque Agrario, it's a local orchard in Fuenlabrada and this has a lot of land where farmers from 00:00:58
all around the city can come and farm here their products. 00:01:07
It also doesn't give them just land, they also give them money so that they can live 00:01:13
off of farming and growing vegetables and fruits and they also teach them new ways to 00:01:19
be more productive when they are farming so that they can grow more products. 00:01:28
Chard is grown during all the year and it's recollected during the months of December 00:01:35
and April. 00:01:39
When it's this time of the year, normally around 30,000 kilograms of chard is collected 00:01:41
per day. That's a lot of time. Here in Parque Agrario you can visit it for free with your 00:01:48
family or alone and you can walk around all their place which is really big and it takes 00:01:55
around 3 hours to complete each route. All the products that are made here in Parque 00:02:02
Agrario are then delivered or sold to supermarkets and archeological markets here in Fuenlabrada 00:02:08
So that they can be bought for a lower price because since the pandemic nearly all the food has gotten up in price and now it costs more. 00:02:16
So come with me to learn more about new ways to help food insecurity here in Fuenlabrada. 00:02:31
Now we are in front of one of Fuenlabrada's social halls, there's a few more around the city but this one is right in the center. 00:02:39
It's called La Casita, right now it's closed but here is where some families that don't have enough money to buy Madrid's food come to have a full free meal. 00:02:47
I came here because I think it's a good solution against food insecurity. 00:02:59
Food insecurity is when someone doesn't have enough money to access nutritious and healthy food for a good and nutritious diet. 00:03:04
There are some more solutions to this problem, such as decreasing the prices to make food more affordable, 00:03:15
or maybe just donating food, but it's a little bit complicated because everyone should help to achieve those goals. 00:03:22
