We are in 1779, in Mexico City, and Bernardo de Gálvez, a Spanish military leader and governor of Spanish Louisiana, after his father's death, he still continued with his legacy.
00:00:00
He became viceroy of New Spain, and during this he worked for the well-being of the people, improved the cities, public facilities, and began constructing the castle of Chapultepec.
00:00:15
Well, said Bernardo to his army, we need to work harder to deport the Brits from Mississippi and Florida.
00:00:30
After these wise words, all of his men prepared excitedly for a war.
00:00:40
Retreat, guys! Come on, retreat!
00:00:59
Galvez's army heard the retreat signals from the Brits and gave it their all at the last moments, finally defeating them.
00:01:02
It's a clear win. Isn't that right, my lord?
00:01:11
Indeed it is, dear comrade. Now, gather around, my men.
00:01:14
We're standing here at a crucial moment in history.
00:01:19
You, my soldiers, are not merely warriors.
00:01:22
You're responsible for this new hope for freedom.
00:01:26
And we are now able to determine our own future.
00:01:29
Hooray! We made it!
00:01:33
And remember, we fight not just for Spain,
00:01:35
but for the independence of these brave colonies, so get your swords and march
00:01:38
for we have a victory to go tell at home. Come on everyone. Upon arriving at home the
00:01:44
soldiers took the good news to anyone and everyone, their families, friends and
00:02:00
even the person that sold them bread. The battle sir, come on and celebrate we've
00:02:06
got tons of fine wine. This was a sight to behold as the Spanish villagers were
00:02:11
singing and dancing to the music, welcoming the brave soldiers who came
00:02:18
exhausted from the battle. Hurry everyone we're going to have a big party at this
00:02:23
square, cheers to us winners! Thanks to the help received from the
00:02:29
Spaniards, with only 500 soldiers and two ships, the Americans were able to survive
00:02:52
the war and eventually win it.
00:02:58
Years later, the Americans were so happy from the independence and so grateful to Galvez
00:03:02
that they even made a statue in Florida for him and marked the day and which these historical
00:03:09
moments will be remembered as the day of Galvez, exactly on his birthday.
