Hello boys and girls. Welcome to a new natural science lesson. In this case, Unit 4, Plants. 00:00:00
Lesson 3, Photosynthesis and Plant Respiration. 00:00:08
The first question is, do plants need food? 00:00:18
Here we can see a plant, water, sunlight, carbon dioxide, and oxygen. 00:00:23
Photosynthesis. 00:00:34
Plants need energy. 00:00:37
This is the type of food they need. 00:00:41
They make their energy through the photosynthesis. 00:00:44
Let's do the math. 00:00:50
Photosynthesis equals to minerals plus water plus sunlight plus carbon dioxide equals to energy plus oxygen. 00:00:54
As we can see here, minerals, water, sunlight, carbon dioxide, energy, which is the food of the plant, and oxygen, O2. 00:01:24
Here you have the formula again. 00:01:42
Why are plants so important for us, humans? 00:01:44
On the one hand, plants need carbon dioxide and release oxygen. 00:01:53
On the other side, humans need oxygen and release carbon dioxide. 00:02:01
This is like a cycle. 00:02:11
In your notebook, you have this drawing of the photosynthesis process. 00:02:15
As we can see here, number 1 is water, blue, number 2 are minerals, brown, number 3 is 00:02:20
carbon dioxide, red, number 4 is sunlight, yellow, number 5 are the stem and leaves, 00:02:28
green and number 6 is oxygen. 00:02:39
In the following page we will explain all these numbers. 00:02:43
one, the roots absorb water from the soil. Number two, the roots absorb minerals 00:02:48
from the soil. Number three, the leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the air. 00:03:00
Number four, the leaves absorb sunlight. Number five, water and minerals pass 00:03:12
through the stem to the leaves. Number six, plants make energy and release 00:03:25
oxygen which is good for us humans let's talk a little bit now about respiration 00:03:39
as we can see here we have a day time and the night time plants also need 00:03:47
oxygen to breathe day time night time the main difference is that during the 00:03:56
daytime, within the photosynthesis, plants are producing oxygen. They release the 00:04:11
oxygen that they don't need, but they use a little bit of oxygen. What happens 00:04:22
during the night time there is no sun no sunlight and plants do not produce oxygen so they take it 00:04:30
from the air remember this is the main reason why we need plants and plants also need us 00:04:43
thank you very much for listening 00:04:53
