Welcome to CHD Radio. 00:00:02
You're on air! 00:00:04
Hello, everyone. Welcome to our CHD Radio. 00:00:14
We're Paco and Candela. 00:00:17
Today, we have two very special guests. 00:00:19
They are teachers from Slovenia, and they are visiting our school. 00:00:22
We're going to discover their country, their culture, and what life is like in a Slovenian school. 00:00:26
But this is not just an interview. 00:00:34
We have some fun games and challenges for them, and maybe for us too. 00:00:36
Are you ready? Let's get started. Welcome to Slovenia meets Spain. 00:00:42
First of all, let's meet our guests. 00:00:48
Could you introduce yourselves? What are your names and what do you teach? 00:00:57
Hello, I'm Varya. I teach children with special needs. 00:01:02
Hello, I'm Nusha and I also teach children with special needs. 00:01:06
okay welcome Nush and Varya thank you we now have some quick questions for you to get to know you 00:01:10
better are you morning people or night owls uh i'm morning people i'm also morning coffee or tea 00:01:18
tea mountains or beach i like beach i like mountains i like beach sweet or savory food 00:01:27
sweet sweet sweet yeah me too would you rather travel to the past or the future future and me 00:01:36
to the past i don't know because in the past i've had some good memories maybe i would go back to 00:01:44
the past but maybe there's something that i want to know about i'll go to the future great now we 00:01:50
know a little bit more about you but it's time to discover your country slovenia is a small country 00:01:58
but we want to know what makes it special. 00:02:05
So here are our questions about Slovenia. 00:02:08
How would you describe Slovenia in three words? 00:02:11
In three words? 00:02:15
Okay. 00:02:16
It's green, it's small, and there are nice people. 00:02:16
And what is the most beautiful place in your country? 00:02:22
Portoroš, Piran. 00:02:25
So you have many, no? 00:02:27
Yes. 00:02:28
These are the coastal cities with the beads. 00:02:29
We also have Lake Bled and Bohin. 00:02:33
They are very interesting. 00:02:37
Do you live in the capital? 00:02:38
I live in the capital, yes. 00:02:39
I live on the countryside. 00:02:42
What is something about Slovenia that foreigners don't know? 00:02:44
This is a tough question. 00:02:48
Nowadays, Slovenia is very touristy. 00:02:52
A lot of people come to Slovenia. 00:02:55
I think it's getting popular. 00:02:58
maybe they don't know that we were once part of a bigger country called yugoslavia and now we are 00:02:59
how many years we are independent till 1991 so it's 25 years wooden traditions what traditional 00:03:10
slovenian food should we try potica it's a sweet cake but it doesn't have cream it's uh like um 00:03:20
It's biscuit and filling. 00:03:28
Is there a funny or unusual tradition in Slovenia? 00:03:31
Maybe kurentovanie, carnival party, and we have traditional masks sent away in the winter. 00:03:35
They dress up in animals' skin, and they have bells around the belt, and they dance. 00:03:44
What is a typical celebration in your country? 00:03:52
Christmas. We bake potica. We make a Christmas tree. 00:03:55
School life. What time does school start and finish in Slovenia? 00:03:59
It starts at 8.20 and finishes around 1 or 2 o'clock. 00:04:03
It depends on the age of students. 00:04:09
Our kids go to primary school from the age of 6 till the age of 15. 00:04:12
So we have nine grades in primary school and the smaller kids finish earlier than the bigger kids, the older ones. 00:04:17
And what do children usually do during their breaks? 00:04:27
They are talking to each other, they are playing games. 00:04:31
Almost all the boys and some girls play football and the others just, I don't know, invent some other games. 00:04:36
yeah what would surprise slovenian students about our school that it starts so late they would be 00:04:44
super happy because some classes in slovenia they start already 7 30 i'm sure that now lots of people 00:04:51
will want to travel to slovenia thank you now we would know much more about slovenia but how much 00:05:02
do you know about spain let's find out it's game time welcome to two countries one challenge we are 00:05:10
going to read some sentences about slovenia and spain have to decide if they are true or false 00:05:17
teachers are you ready students you can play along too slovenia has a coastline on the adriatic sea 00:05:24
True. 00:05:32
The capital of Slovenia is Bratislava. 00:05:33
No. 00:05:37
Lake Bled has a small island with a church. 00:05:38
Yes. 00:05:42
And Spain and Slovenia had exactly the same school timetable. 00:05:43
No. 00:05:47
In Spain, people traditionally eat 12 grapes at midnight on New Year's Eve to bring good luck. 00:05:48
Do you know that? 00:05:55
No. 00:05:56
I would think it's false. 00:05:57
No, it's true. 00:05:59
It's true. 00:06:00
so you two also do it everyone since you're a kid you watch it on tv all the family comes together 00:06:01
on tv you have it there's like a clock and every time the clock sounds you have to eat one grape 00:06:09
the thing is that it's kind of difficult because sometimes you have your mouth full of grapes and 00:06:15
you're not able to swallow them you have to eat one per second so it's like yeah and they're huge 00:06:21
grapes yeah that's really fun fact about spain yeah it said that you have to eat the 12 of them 00:06:27
to start the new year with lots of luck if you don't finish them in spain children usually have 00:06:35
dinner at six or seven o'clock in the evening yes true oh it's false i usually have dinner like 00:06:43
at eight or nine yeah eight thirty nine very late but and that's early eight is early 00:06:53
yeah but in Slovenia they usually have at six or seven o'clock so we were like 00:07:01
yeah Candela what time do you have dinner like nine or that I have dinner at 10 10 30 00:07:07
so it's usually very late in Spain people celebrate their name day as well as their 00:07:15
birthday is it true true in spain many people celebrating their saint's day especially their 00:07:22
name is associated with uh with the sign that it's like i don't know for me it's like a second 00:07:31
birthday it's the same in slovenia yeah yeah okay well done but now it's time for our next challenge 00:07:40
This one is a little bit harder. 00:07:49
Slovenian sounds very different from English and Spanish, 00:07:53
so we have a challenge for you, Nush and Varya. 00:07:56
You can teach us some Slovenian words that we will repeat. 00:07:59
And then we can teach you some Spanish words to you. 00:08:04
We will think three or four words. 00:08:07
For example, videojuegos. 00:08:09
Videojuegos? 00:08:13
Yeah. 00:08:15
What does it mean? 00:08:16
Video games. 00:08:17
Yeah, it's video games. 00:08:19
Video games, okay. 00:08:20
And raqueta. 00:08:23
Raqueta. 00:08:25
Yeah, it's also more or less. 00:08:27
Raqueta is like racket when you play tennis. 00:08:30
Okay. 00:08:33
Tijeras. 00:08:34
Tijeras. 00:08:36
Tijeras. 00:08:37
Yes, more or less. 00:08:39
That means scissors. 00:08:40
Okay. 00:08:43
It becomes a difficult one. 00:08:44
I don't remember the name in English, but it's like... 00:08:47
Yeah, marker. 00:08:56
It's your turn now. 00:08:57
Could you teach us three or four words? 00:08:58
What? 00:09:06
It means buenos dias. 00:09:11
I don't know. 00:09:17
It means scissors. 00:09:19
Oh, okay. 00:09:21
Moria. 00:09:25
Moria. 00:09:26
Moria. 00:09:27
Moria. 00:09:28
Moria. 00:09:29
Si. 00:09:31
That was fun. 00:09:32
We have learned a lot about Slovenia. 00:09:33
But before we finish, we have one last question for you. 00:09:35
What would you like Spanish children to know about Slovenia? 00:09:39
That they are very welcome to visit us. 00:09:44
in Slovenia, maybe as tourists 00:09:47
or to come to our school 00:09:49
and to meet our children. 00:09:51
And can you teach us one last 00:09:53
Slovenian expression before you go? 00:09:55
Na svidanje. 00:09:58
What does it mean? 00:09:59
Bye-bye. Yeah, like 00:10:01
hasta luego or nos vemos. 00:10:03
Thank you so much 00:10:06
for visiting our school radio 00:10:08
and playing with us. 00:10:09
We hope you have enjoyed 00:10:11
this experience. We have learned 00:10:13
a lot about Slovenia today 00:10:15
and hope you learned something about Spain too. 00:10:17
Thanks for listening to Slovenia meets Spain. 00:10:20
See you next time. 00:10:24
