Hello everyone, I am going to start by explaining task number 3 and in this task I am showing
00:00:00
you our Situacion de Aprendizaje or our learning unit about the topic we are studying which
00:00:16
is called Form by Cells. Alright, now the first thing that we are going to talk about
00:00:23
is what our unit is about, what cells are and so on. So I want to pose a question. What
00:00:30
do you think the main difference is between a chair and a cat? I mean I am sure you can
00:00:37
think of several differences, but the main difference between these two things that we
00:00:44
are looking at here.
00:00:52
That one is made of cells and the other one isn't. Now, I would like you to think about
00:00:53
which one you think is made of cells and which one isn't. And why that is. So think about
00:01:01
that as we start this unit and I am going to tell you that through out the unit we are
00:01:08
going to learn. What cells are, what things that are made of cells, what cells are made
00:01:14
of.
00:01:19
So cells as we see here, examples of one.
00:01:20
have little components inside of them and we're going to study what those different components
00:01:23
are and we're also going to look at the different kinds of cells that exist in a broad way.
00:01:27
Once we look at the different contents we are also going to work on a group project which is called
00:01:34
cell city in which we will can compare the parts of the cell with the parts of the city based on
00:01:41
what they do and at the end of the unit we will do a lab practical in which we will work in pairs
00:01:48
learn how to use a microscope and study different samples of tissues which are made of cells
00:01:56
to see if we can visualize the different things that we've learned in class as well as learn how
00:02:04
to use a microscope. All right now what are the goals for a unit we've somewhat mentioned them
00:02:10
before already.
00:02:18
But just to recap we're going to learn what cells are what they're made of and the different types
00:02:19
of cells that exist we are also going to learn how to carry out our own research in contrast
00:02:24
the information that we have found as we learn the content for this unit as me the teacher
00:02:30
explains the content you guys will have to complete some questions do some self-evaluation
00:02:37
work to make sure that you understand what we are studying.
00:02:43
We will do that both in google forms in science bids and potentially other kinds of work as well
00:02:49
then as we said before we are going to complete a group project either on kanba or on powerpoint
00:02:57
in which you will compare the parts of the cell with the parts of the city
00:03:04
okay and again that's a group project so it's important that we will work we work well in groups
00:03:07
and once we complete the project we will do a presentation an oral presentation.
00:03:13
We will then do a final presentation of the class and then we will give you the
00:03:18
information on how to give this the same information to the rest of the class explaining our work.
00:03:22
Finally we will learn how to use a light microscope working in pairs
00:03:27
to look at different samples of tissues and to apply what we've learned in class.
00:03:30
Now how we're going to organize ourselves as I said before we're going to divide the work that
00:03:38
we'll do into classwork the group project and lab practical.
00:03:43
For the classwork
00:03:47
or we will just answer some questions based on the explanations that the teacher gives in class
00:03:48
to complete science activities, Google Forms, and I mean other types of activities like that as well,
00:03:54
which will be uploaded on the virtual classroom.
00:04:03
This work will be completed individually, and it will be done both in class and at home
00:04:07
if we don't have time to complete it in class.
00:04:12
Now, for the group project, as I've already said, what we have to do,
00:04:14
either Kanbar or PowerPoint presentation to explain and compare the parts of a cell with the parts of the city.
00:04:19
You can get as creative as you want with this project.
00:04:25
You can choose a city that already exists, for example, New York,
00:04:28
and compare different parts within that city, iconic landmarks, for example, to the different parts of the cell.
00:04:33
The comparison needs to make sense, right?
00:04:41
It can be...
00:04:44
It can be at random.
00:04:44
We'll explain this in detail when we get to the project.
00:04:46
And then you will have to explain your work, present your work orally to the rest of the class,
00:04:49
and make sure that every member of the team explains or talks a little bit about the work that you've done.
00:04:59
Now, this project will be done in groups of five.
00:05:07
The teacher will decide the members of the team,
00:05:10
and the work will exclusively be completed in class.
00:05:14
Obviously, if you don't have time to complete it in class, you'll have to work a little bit at home,
00:05:18
but the idea is for you to have time to do the whole thing in class.
00:05:24
Finally, the lab practical.
00:05:27
In this, we will learn how to use light microscope.
00:05:29
We will look at different samples of tissues made of cells with a partner,
00:05:33
and we will complete a lab notebook in which you'll make scientific drawings of what you see.
00:05:38
And what you study.
00:05:44
So, these are the different parts of the unit.
00:05:46
Now, how long will we take for each of these tasks?
00:05:50
The class work between the teacher's explanations and the work you have to do will last four sessions.
00:05:53
The group work for the cell city project will last five sessions.
00:05:59
And the lab work will last two sessions.
00:06:05
Just to clarify for the group project,
00:06:08
the five sessions will include three sessions of working,
00:06:11
on the project, in class, and then two sessions of presentations.
00:06:14
Just because I didn't mention it before when I was explaining the project,
00:06:20
quick remark, I was saying that you can either choose a city that already exists,
00:06:25
like New York, and compare the parts of the cell to the landmarks that already exist,
00:06:30
just as long as it makes sense,
00:06:35
or you can invent your own city and compare the different parts and buildings and factories and so on,
00:06:37
of that environment.
00:06:43
So, you can create your own city,
00:06:44
or you can create your own imaginary city,
00:06:46
to the different parts of the cell.
00:06:48
Alright, finally, how are we going to assess the work that you do for this unit?
00:06:50
The class work.
00:06:55
The bits that I will assess will be the activities from ScienceBits,
00:06:57
the Google Form questions,
00:07:02
and any additional questions that might come up.
00:07:04
It might be a worksheet.
00:07:07
It might be some other type of interactive work,
00:07:09
like a Kahoot!
00:07:12
We'll see.
00:07:13
Then, for a group project, I will assess and give points to the presentation,
00:07:15
and I will evaluate the content, the tidiness, and the creativity of the presentation,
00:07:23
how well you work in groups,
00:07:29
and I might ask you to peer assess yourselves for this one,
00:07:32
and then the oral presentation.
00:07:36
Sorry about that, everyone.
00:07:39
Alright.
00:07:43
Now, the lab work, finally.
00:07:45
We will assess that by how well you use the lab equipment,
00:07:49
by how well you work in pairs,
00:07:54
and I will also assess the notebook,
00:07:57
how good the scientific drawings are,
00:08:00
how well they are labeled,
00:08:03
how clean your work is,
00:08:05
how tidy it is.
00:08:07
I mean, while we do the different bits of work,
00:08:08
I will make sure to explain each of these steps properly again,
00:08:12
so that you know how they will be assessed.
00:08:17
Alright.
00:08:23
The next part that I will explain is section four, okay?
00:08:31
And this is what we will use,
00:08:35
some of the tools that we will use
00:08:38
in order to evaluate your classwork,
00:08:40
make sure that you understand the contents that we've explained properly.
00:08:43
So, I'm going to click on each of these tasks
00:08:48
so that you see what they are about,
00:08:51
and I can explain them.
00:08:54
Just a quick thing.
00:08:56
The first task, called Evaluación 1,
00:09:01
would be a part of the grade for the first evaluation,
00:09:04
Evaluación 2,
00:09:08
Evaluación 2 would be for the second evaluation,
00:09:09
and finally, Evaluación Final
00:09:13
will be a grade for the third evaluation.
00:09:15
Alright, going back to each of these tasks,
00:09:18
Evaluación 1
00:09:21
is a true or false questionnaire.
00:09:23
So, for example, question one,
00:09:27
Prokaryotic cells have a nucleus.
00:09:29
If you think it's true, you'll click Verdadero.
00:09:31
If you think it's false, you'll click Falso.
00:09:33
And so on, alright?
00:09:36
For the second evaluation,
00:09:38
you have a drag the words into the correct boxes type of question.
00:09:41
And again, you're given three different words.
00:09:48
If you click on the word that you want to use
00:09:50
and the box it's supposed to go into,
00:09:53
I did this at random, this is not necessarily the right answer,
00:09:56
then you can complete the activity
00:09:59
and then click on Compromar at the end to check your work.
00:10:01
Finally, Evaluación Final,
00:10:05
I mean, you only have one try to do it
00:10:08
because I've already gone in and done it,
00:10:11
I can't see it again.
00:10:13
So I'm going to click on this option,
00:10:15
Continuar la previsualización anterior,
00:10:17
just to show you what it looks like
00:10:19
and what you guys have to do.
00:10:22
You will come across several questions like this one.
00:10:24
Cells are microscopic, therefore to see them we must use,
00:10:27
and you choose the right answer, right?
00:10:30
There's four questions in this Evaluación Final.
00:10:32
Alright, so that's,
00:10:36
the fourth section that I'm explaining here to you.
00:10:37
And finally, the fifth section.
00:10:41
Just one second.
00:10:52
Hopefully this will load quickly.
00:10:57
Oh, let's see.
00:10:59
Let's try again.
00:11:04
Let's give it a few seconds as it loads.
00:11:07
Here we go.
00:11:17
Alright, so this is called Espacio de Actividades con Ritmos Distintos de Aprendizaje.
00:11:19
What this presentation is showing you
00:11:24
are different activities that we will complete
00:11:27
as part of our classwork,
00:11:30
which again will be assessed.
00:11:32
Different activities to,
00:11:34
reinforce the content that we've learned throughout the unit.
00:11:36
If you click on each of these different sections,
00:11:41
we have start,
00:11:44
one,
00:11:45
two,
00:11:46
three,
00:11:47
pit stop,
00:11:48
four,
00:11:49
and the finish line.
00:11:50
As you click each of these things,
00:11:52
it will take you to different videos and activities
00:11:54
that you will need to complete as we go.
00:11:57
Let's take a look.
00:12:00
If we click on start,
00:12:02
we will be able to see how the task works.
00:12:04
Just one second.
00:12:07
Oh.
00:12:08
Sorry, this comes up because
00:12:10
of how I've setup the settings.
00:12:12
But it should open up for you guys.
00:12:14
No issue.
00:12:17
Any way if we click on start,
00:12:19
we should be able to access the instructions
00:12:21
of the task.
00:12:26
So let me open up the instructions
00:12:28
just to show you.
00:12:31
Alright, so what do we need to do in order to start this learning sequence?
00:12:34
Number one, we need to read the instructions carefully.
00:12:56
We must understand each activity before completing it.
00:12:59
Number two, you must complete activities one, two, and three before stopping.
00:13:03
If you struggle to complete them, you can make a pit stop and then either continue to
00:13:08
the end or go back to the first three activities to understand them better.
00:13:13
So looking at that learning sequence that we had, questions one, two, and three, those
00:13:17
need to be completed or at least you have to attempt to complete them before stopping.
00:13:25
Now when we get to the pit stop.
00:13:32
If you found those activities complicated, you can watch the video that I've added at
00:13:33
the pit stop level to recap and try to understand better what we've been explaining up to that
00:13:39
point.
00:13:48
And then if things are clear, you can go back and try to complete activities one, two, and
00:13:49
three again, see if they turn out better the second time around.
00:13:54
Or if you think you've done a good enough job and you still have time, you can get your
00:13:59
attention back.
00:14:03
Continue on with question four and then go to the end, to the finish line to complete
00:14:04
the work.
00:14:11
Now, if you only have time to complete the first three activities, that's okay.
00:14:12
Number three, make sure to have fun along the way.
00:14:17
You don't need to rush.
00:14:20
I would rather you complete the first three activities and understand them properly than
00:14:21
you do all of them but in a rushed way and not really understanding the content.
00:14:26
Okay, hopefully that was clear.
00:14:33
Let's go back to our learning sequence.
00:14:38
Okay, now I'm going to show you the different activities that come up if we click at those
00:14:41
different sections.
00:14:48
So if you click on number one, it will take you to a video explaining what sales are.
00:14:51
Okay, that's an introduction to our learning sequence.
00:14:57
Okay.
00:15:01
If we click on number two, it will take you to a denali about animal and plant sales and
00:15:02
the different parts of them.
00:15:13
You even have another video you can watch to understand the differences and similarities
00:15:14
of plants and animal sales.
00:15:20
All right, that's a more visual tool that we can use to learn this, to learn about this.
00:15:22
The first video was more general and this is a little bit more specific.
00:15:27
Okay.
00:15:32
Now if we click on three, you have a worksheet that you have to complete precisely about
00:15:32
let's close this, precisely about the differences between plant and animal sales, okay, which
00:15:41
you should have learned about in the first two steps.
00:15:47
Now if, as we said before, you have struggled to complete these three activities, if you
00:15:50
click on the pit stop sign, then you'll have another video, a simpler video.
00:15:57
A simplified one, recapping the things that we've learned up to this point.
00:16:02
So once you do that, if you feel like the first three activities have been completed
00:16:09
well enough, then you can move on to four.
00:16:14
But if not, you can do one, two, and three again.
00:16:16
And if that's all you have time for, like to complete during this lesson, that's great.
00:16:19
That's enough.
00:16:25
All right.
00:16:26
Now, if you still have time and you feel like these three are done well, you can move on
00:16:27
to activity number four, which is another video, a bit more fun with this video.
00:16:32
It's a rap about the parts of the cell.
00:16:39
Okay.
00:16:42
And if you manage to do all the way up to here, then the last task would be to complete
00:16:43
a Kahoot.
00:16:48
It's a bit more complicated than maybe the first few tasks.
00:16:50
And so that will work as a final evaluation to see if you've learned the rest of the content.
00:16:55
But once more.
00:17:01
If you only have time to complete one, two, and three, I am happy with that.
00:17:02
I hope this video was helpful to understand the different activities that we have to do.
