Singular and plural nouns. We are going to look at the rules to make the singular and plural nouns. 00:00:00
The main rule is to add an S at the end of the noun. 00:00:15
Example, arm, arms. Most nouns add S to form the plural. 00:00:20
Second rule. Nouns that end with SH, CH, X or S form the plural by adding ES. 00:00:27
Example. Box, boxes. 00:00:44
Nouns ending with a vowel plus Y add S to form the plural. 00:00:50
Example, boy, boys. 00:00:59
Here comes the difference because nouns ending with a consonant plus Y 00:01:03
change the Y for an I and add ES. 00:01:10
Example, baby, babies. 00:01:17
The Y changes into an I and then we add ES. 00:01:21
okay so when you have consonant 00:01:28
B for example plus Y 00:01:32
here you are consonant plus Y 00:01:36
you have to change the Y into an I 00:01:40
and then we add ES whereas if you have 00:01:43
vowel plus Y you don't need to do anything except add an S 00:01:48
vowel Y we only add 00:01:54
5. Nouns which end in F or FE. In this case we change the F or FE to VES. 00:01:58
Leave, leaves. So the F is taken away, we change it into a V and we add ES. 00:02:15
Nouns ending in vowel plus O. We only add S. Example, radio, radios. 00:02:28
But when we have a noun ending in a consonant plus O, we add ES. Example, potato, potatoes. 00:02:42
You see? Consonant, O. So we add ES. Vowel, O. We only add S. 00:02:53
Then we have nouns that have no change. Example, ship, ship. Irregular pronouns, plural nouns. 00:03:06
Example, child, children. 00:03:16
Here you have more examples of this one. 00:03:19
Okay? 00:03:23
Okay, nouns that have no chains. 00:03:23
Series, series. 00:03:25
Species, species. 00:03:26
Irregular plural nouns. 00:03:29
Person, people. 00:03:31
Mouse, mice. 00:03:33
Tooth, teeth. 00:03:34
Foot, feet. 00:03:36
Child, children. 00:03:38
And here we have two cases of some of them which you can have the singular fish and the plural can be fish or fishes or shrimp that you can have it also the plural shrimp or shrimps. 00:03:39
And that is all. So thank you very much for paying attention. And bye bye. 00:03:59
