Good morning. So now I'd like to show you a model on how to plan the book presentation 00:00:00
podcast. Once I finished reading Matilda, which is the novel that I presented in my 00:00:07
podcast, I filled in the notes. First, I wrote down the title of the novel, Matilda, the 00:00:14
author's name, Roald Dahl. I explained the genre, the type of novel that it is, realism 00:00:23
with a touch of magic, and then I filled in other works by the author, by Roald Dahl, 00:00:29
and I mentioned some of his famous novels and a little bit of information about the 00:00:36
fact that he was also a poet, a very famous poet. Secondly, I described how I came across 00:00:42
the novel, that by reading, seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on TV, and that 00:00:48
I enjoyed that film, and then when I saw Matilda by Roald Dahl in the library, that 00:00:56
I thought it would be an interesting choice. The third aspect of the plan that I filled 00:01:02
in was where the novel was set, in a village in England, and the time I thought it was 00:01:08
set in. Now, if your novel doesn't say where it's set, you can say something a little bit 00:01:14
vaguer, because mine didn't say the name of the village. You can say that it's a town 00:01:19
or a city or an urban area or a rural area, and if you're not told when, you can say that 00:01:24
it's contemporary. It could be nowadays or that it was in the past because of the forms 00:01:34
of transport. There are little clues to give you more or less a rough idea if it's a story 00:01:41
set in the past or in the present day. Now, the fourth thing, please remember that you 00:01:45
mustn't spoil the novel that you're recommending to the audience, to the listener. So, I then 00:01:53
explained that it was a third-person omniscient narrator, just as if it were Roald Dahl telling 00:02:00
us the story. In this section, I also explained who the main character is and the conflict, 00:02:06
and I had to be very careful here not to talk or not to reveal anything that could spoil 00:02:15
the reading for a potential listener. The fifth section that I filled in was a quote 00:02:22
in Matilda that I thought was very interesting, and I explained why. Now, remember here that 00:02:30
you mustn't say something simplistic like, oh, it was really interesting, oh, it's really 00:02:37
good. Try to think carefully when you're asked questions like explain why. Think very, very 00:02:41
carefully about the kind of answer that you would like to produce. Number six, then, I 00:02:47
described one, for me, the most important quality that Matilda had, and again, I explained 00:02:54
that it was a strong quality and why I thought she had this quality by referring to the novel. 00:03:01
I then explained who in my notes I would recommend this novel to, and another why question. So, 00:03:09
you have to think carefully about why you think somebody should take time to sit down 00:03:16
and read this novel. Now, I actually mentioned that Roald Dahl uses some very interesting 00:03:21
verbs and adjectives that could help us to improve our vocabulary, so please don't use 00:03:28
my example because it wouldn't be the first time that I've seen the same thing 20 times. 00:03:35
It's not very original. And evaluate your novel. Remember to say if you would recommend 00:03:41
it 10 out of 10 or 5 out of 5, and again, this is another why question, so think carefully 00:03:47
about why you really would recommend or not this novel. And finally, remember that you 00:03:53
have to explain, and I explained in my plan what I went away learning from this novel, 00:04:01
and again, these why questions require you to think very carefully because you don't 00:04:08
want to repeat yourself two or three times. You really do have to think about different 00:04:12
things that you want to say as a reason why. And you will then see that you will have a 00:04:17
template like mine, a planning template, to fill in your own information once you have 00:04:26
finished reading your novel with all eight items. Please refer back to my plan if you're 00:04:32
not sure how to fill in each of these eight items. And when you finish planning, it's 00:04:38
always useful to go to the rubric and check that you're on the right tracks, so please 00:04:46
remember that the audio file you send me has to have your full name, your first name and 00:04:52
your true surnames, but the audio that you record can have an avatar name if you would 00:04:59
like me to publish your work. And remember that I will be looking for an audio that's 00:05:06
a book presentation, where the information has to be detailed and relevant, where the 00:05:13
listener is informed and finds it interesting, is entertained. Remember that I will be looking 00:05:18
for language that is coherent, that you've made your message understood, that your ideas 00:05:25
are well organised and you use the kind of vocabulary that I've suggested, words like 00:05:31
author, character, setting, plot. Remember that your oral presentation has to be loud, 00:05:36
so please check when you record it that it's on full volume, because it's always best for 00:05:45
me to take the volume down, lower the volume, rather than to get frustrated that I can't 00:05:50
hear you well, even though I put it up at 100%. And your pronunciation has to be clear 00:05:58
and fluent, and you will have no problems with this, because you're very good at this. 00:06:04
And finally, the audio, I'm sorry I have to repeat this so often, but it is so very important, 00:06:09
the audio must have your real name, your full name, but if you'd like me to publish your 00:06:15
work then the actual podcast has to have an avatar name, because you're underage, so it's 00:06:21
best if it's an avatar name. The email that you send me with the audio must tell me if 00:06:27
you give me permission or not to publish your work, and use the sharer-like Creative Commons 00:06:32
logo. And remember that you also get points for sending me the task on time. 00:06:39
And that's it, I hope this template on how to plan your book presentation proves useful. 00:06:46
The next one will be on the script. 00:06:55
