Our digestive system breaks food down into small particles called nutrients. 00:00:14
Our muscles and organs need these nutrients to give us energy and help us grow. 00:00:20
Once the digestive system has extracted the nutrients, it gets rid of the waste. 00:00:26
Let's take a look at some of the individual parts of the digestive system. 00:00:32
The first part of the digestive system is the mouth. 00:00:37
Here, food is broken up by the teeth and mixed with saliva by the tongue. 00:00:41
Once food is processed by the mouth, it goes down the esophagus into the stomach. 00:00:48
The esophagus is the tube that leads from the mouth to the stomach that food travels down. 00:00:55
Food travels from the esophagus into the stomach. 00:01:02
Here the food is processed by gastric juices that make the food easier to digest. 00:01:06
This is the small intestine. The small intestine has lots of blood vessels. 00:01:14
Nutrients pass into the blood here and are distributed throughout the rest of the body. 00:01:20
This is the large intestine. Waste passes through here. Water goes out into the body and the waste 00:01:27
becomes harder. Food waste, after passing through the large intestine, goes to the anus, where it 00:01:34
leaves the body. Digestion takes place mainly in the small intestine, but some nutrients are 00:01:43
digested in the mouth and stomach. Some things are not digested. Water, minerals, and vitamins 00:01:52
are small enough to pass into the blood without being digested. 00:01:59
excretory system let's talk about what happens to the waste the body produces when the blood 00:02:03
goes through the kidneys excess water and waste products are dropped off and made into urine 00:02:15
jurors are the tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder urine that is made by the kidneys 00:02:20
goes down the ureters into the bladder the bladder is where urine is stored when the 00:02:29
bladder is full, it sends messages to our brain. When the bladder is full, it sends the urine to 00:02:38
the urethra. The urethra is the tube that all of the urine exits the body out of. 00:02:47
