beginning of time we can measure time with different units of time when we 00:00:25
talk about short periods of time we use seconds minutes and hours we can even 00:00:41
use days weeks and months when we talk about longer periods of time like when 00:00:51
we talk about history we use years decades and centuries in this way one 00:01:05
One day is made up of 24 hours, one hour is made up of 60 minutes and one minute is made 00:01:23
up of 60 seconds. 00:01:36
The same way, seven days are one week, four weeks are approximately one month, 12 months 00:01:41
are a year, ten years are a decade, and a hundred years are one century. 00:01:54
As we have said, one hundred years are one century. 00:02:06
Look at the chart. 00:02:13
can see different years and the century to which they belong so let's take a 00:02:17
look year 2015 belongs to the 21st century year 1970 belongs to the 20th 00:02:28
century year 1746 belongs to the 18th century year 1167 belongs to the 12th 00:02:42
century year 612 belongs to the 7th century and the year 38 belongs to the 00:02:57
first century. Why are some of these numbers written in blue? It's so that you take note. 00:03:08
When we see a year that begins with a number, like for example year 2015 starts with 20, 00:03:21
we know it belongs to the century with that number plus one to the 21st century. The same for 00:03:30
Or year 1970 starts with 19, so it belongs to the century of 19 plus 1, which is 20, and so on. 00:03:39
When we talk about years in our history, as we said, we talk in decades and in centuries. 00:03:50
years and centuries before the birth of Jesus Christ are called BC and years and 00:04:03
centuries after the birth of Jesus Christ are called 80 in this timeline we 00:04:16
can see the birth of jesus right here so the green the green part of the line is a d 00:04:26
now we're here in the 21st century and the part of the line that you see in yellow 00:04:42
is before the birth of Jesus, so it would be BC. Talking about years in English can be a little 00:04:49
bit confusing. How do we say years in English? When we say specific years, we normally separate 00:05:02
the numbers like this. 6, 17, 14, 92, 20, 19. In this case, we would say 302, and in this one, 00:05:12
we would say 1801, but however, sometimes we don't separate numbers like that, sometimes we just say 00:05:38
90, 300, or 2000. In this case, however, we say 1400. In this one, we would say 2003. 00:05:51
