Countable and uncountable nouns. 00:00:01
As the name says, countable nouns will be those that can be counted. 00:00:04
That you can say two, three, four, you can put before, no? 00:00:10
Or you can say a, whatever. 00:00:14
And the uncountable nouns are the ones that cannot be counted. 00:00:17
Okay? 00:00:22
So, some characteristics about countable nouns is that they have a singular and plural form. 00:00:23
Example, tree, trees. 00:00:29
and that they can use a singular or plural verb. 00:00:31
Example, the book is old. 00:00:35
The books are old. 00:00:37
Okay, is, are, is is for singular and are is for plural. 00:00:40
Whereas uncountable nouns have only one form. 00:00:48
They have no plural. 00:00:53
Example, batter. 00:00:54
You cannot say batters. 00:00:56
okay and they always use a singular verb 00:00:57
sugar is sweet you don't say sugar are sweet 00:01:01
sugar is sweet. Some more characteristics is that they cannot 00:01:05
use a, an or a number before the noun 00:01:11
so you cannot say for example a butter 00:01:15
two butters, three butters 00:01:18
no example that you have you cannot say a rice 00:01:22
or three rice. Bread, you cannot say a bread or two bread. You can say two pieces of bread, 00:01:25
two slices of bread, but you need another word to be able to count what you are having. 00:01:34
But as such, they are uncountable nouns. Okay, uncountable nouns are often abstract ideas 00:01:43
such as love freedom education made of smaller parts such as the ones that we have seen rice 00:01:50
sugar flour some food such as bread cheese chocolate the same you cannot say a give me 00:01:57
three cheese no give me three pieces of cheese or give me three uh whatever of cheese but you 00:02:05
need something in between. Liquids and gases, water, milk, rain. Of course you cannot say 00:02:13
a water or two water. You can of course say a bottle of water or three bottles of water. 00:02:20
But to be able to be counted they need somewhere to put it in. Materials such as wood, glass, 00:02:28
Cotton and for example other 00:02:35
Uncountables will be furniture advice work news 00:02:39
information luggage and money 00:02:43
Okay, and well that's all about 00:02:48
