00:00:14
And my name is Nayara.
00:00:16

00:00:18
Hi, Luke. How are you?
00:00:21
Hello. I'm doing fantastic. How are you?
00:00:23
We are great today. Thank you for coming.
00:00:26
We have some questions for you. Patricia, take it away.
00:00:30
Are you ready?
00:00:35
I was born ready.
00:00:36
What is your function inside this school?
00:00:38
My function at this school, I'm one of the English auxiliares, so I teach 6th graders, 4th graders, and some of the infantile classes.
00:00:42
I help conversation, I help writing, and getting comfortable around the English language.
00:00:51
Great. What's your full name?
00:00:59
My full name is Luke Haru. Yeah, interesting one.
00:01:01
in which universities did you study oh I studied at the University of Oregon in the United States
00:01:05
for my bachelor's in trumpet performance and then I got a master's degree at the University of North
00:01:14
Texas in trumpet performance as well so two degrees in music and been teaching for a long time
00:01:21
do you play any instruments there we go yeah uh I'm a trumpet player I play some piano you know
00:01:27
if you don't know what a good piano player sounds like I can trick you um and yeah I sing a little
00:01:36
bit play trumpet all those why did you came why did you come as an assistant to Spain um my cousin
00:01:42
actually did this exact same program years ago and she was she talks about it every time we get
00:01:49
together and so since I was uh 15 years old I've wanted to do this program and traveling is one of
00:01:56
favorite things and I've always wanted to learn some Spanish and it was a great time to come
00:02:05
abroad and meet some new people and study and teach so yeah how much time have you worked here
00:02:10
oh I've been here for about six to seven months seven months I would say um yeah and it's been
00:02:20
wonderful this school year it's been great which grades do you help as an assistant so this year
00:02:29
I've worked with many of the classrooms through this school but my primary classes are infantile
00:02:38
five so five-year-olds fourth grade and then sixth grade so what was your first impression
00:02:45
when you arrived here oh when i arrived i honestly fell in love with it i loved this school uh the
00:02:53
community around it it's very different from the united states schools um how everything is ran is
00:03:02
very interesting to me so i really connected with it and it was fun it was putting me kind of on my
00:03:08
toes as we say so i wasn't comfortable which made me excited and i liked it so everything about it
00:03:15
the community the weather I like warm weather where I'm from it's always raining and very cold
00:03:22
so everything about it I fell in love with do you feel good in this school I feel great in this
00:03:28
school yeah I get to teach music as well I forgot to mention earlier um to all of you guys and it's
00:03:36
one of my most absolute favorite things to do so I get to teach music and hang out and dance with
00:03:42
you guys which is funny when you get to see me dance so i apologize for that um do you have any
00:03:49
brothers or sisters i do i have a older brother who is 33 years old he lives in oregon and he's
00:03:56
actually a principal at a high school and then i have a older sister as well who is 30 years old
00:04:05
and she lives in melbourne australia and she is a representative for many different things she's
00:04:12
done politics and she's done commercial companies so yeah she's just a general representative for
00:04:21
some companies and yeah well this is a very important question for me because i love music so
00:04:29
okay what what type of music do you like oh that is you know the age-old question is very difficult
00:04:36
um I like any type of music and that's one answer that people don't like but growing up my mom and
00:04:44
sister only listened to country music so growing up that was in the house my brother and father
00:04:53
only listened to classic rock and my best friends only listened to hip-hop so I grew up with those
00:04:59
three and I'm a classical musician so I have studied everything from Beethoven to studying
00:05:06
hip-hop and I've studied Beethoven to Tupac so anything that you can possibly put a trumpet into
00:05:13
is my favorite I listen my Spotify playlist goes from a Haydn trumpet concerto to
00:05:20
Eminem I don't know it's everything yeah which career would you like to study apart from the
00:05:28
one you're studying now um so outside of here I am well a trumpet player so music is my primary
00:05:38
career back home in the states and then teaching has been something I've been doing since I was 16
00:05:48
I've been teaching trumpet lessons. So teaching and music, I would say, are my main focuses.
00:05:53
But my other passion is I'm a huge coffee nerd. So I study coffee. I roast coffee.
00:05:59
I probably drink too much coffee. So that maybe.
00:06:07
Wow. Do you like Spain?
00:06:13
I love Spain. I'm hoping to explore as much of it as possible before we leave.
00:06:17
I've been to Madrid, of course, Valencia, Barcelona, Sevilla, and I'll be going to Gran Canarias and Mallorca soon.
00:06:22
So getting to explore all of Spain is beautiful.
00:06:34
It's one of my favorite places I've ever been.
00:06:39
It reminds me of Southern California, which is where I was born.
00:06:42
And it's beautiful, always warm.
00:06:46
it has enough cold in the winter to satisfy you know um and i love it it's gorgeous there's some
00:06:49
mountains i can you know i've gotten a lot darker i've been able to tan you know oregon is not very
00:06:56
sunny so i love it what do you like to do in your free time oh my free time is
00:07:03
man I play music all the time if I'm not playing music or teaching I'm probably roasting coffee
00:07:11
and if I'm not doing those I'm traveling traveling is one of my favorite things I used to do it in
00:07:20
the United States I would go around as much as I possibly could and coming out to Europe it's
00:07:26
incredible I've been traveling many weekends in a row and then yeah being able to come back home
00:07:33
to Madrid and Alcalá is beautiful. I love it. So traveling is my biggest pastime, I'll say.
00:07:40
Where are you from? So I was born in San Diego, California. And when I was around your age,
00:07:49
when I was 11, I moved to Portland, Oregon, just north of California. And yeah, Oregon is a very
00:07:58
rainy and foresty place. That's where Washington and Oregon is where the Twilight movie series
00:08:06
were filmed. So if you imagine dark and forests and rainy, that's where I grew up for a long time.
00:08:12
So Oregon and California, pretty much the whole West Coast of the United States.
00:08:19
We're happy to hear you. This is the final. How are you feeling?
00:08:26
I'm feeling great
00:08:33
this is really fun
00:08:35
I like doing these
00:08:36
so thank you for having me
00:08:37
so Luke
00:08:38
thanks for the time
00:08:39
you spent with us
00:08:40
of course
00:08:42
yeah
00:08:43
thank you
00:08:43
bye
